Giants fall in One-Wallet Cup quarter finals

FIREWORKS characterised proceedings in the One Wallet Cup quarter final matches played last weekend.
A total of six goals were scored in open play.
Two of the four quarter finals were decided by penalties after one-all draws.
Dynamos, Highlanders, Harare City, FC Platinum, How Mine, Chicken Inn, CAPS United and Triangle made up the quarter finalists.
Dynamos, Highlanders, Harare City and FC Platinum were seeded in the draw conducted.
However, three of the seeded teams were sent packing save for Dynamos.
Last Friday, fans in Zvishavane were treated to thrilling action as two matches made their day.
First it was the clash between Harare City and the ‘Sugar Sugar Boys’ – Triangle FC.
Two goals were produced in each half of the first quarter final match between Harare City and Triangle.
Nathan Ziwini was the first to score a goal in the inaugural edition of the One-Wallet Cup before Lameck Nhamo equalised in the second half.
The deadlock continued into the penalty lotteries as both teams scored four of the allotted five spot kicks.
Harare City were beaten 7-8 in the sudden death of the spot kicks.
It was Phineas Bamusi who tried to be stylish and shot straight into the hands of Triangle goalie, Ronald Mudimu.
Later that day, FC Platinum had a bitter pill to swallow when Louis Matawu silenced the home side reminding the platinum miners of the 2013 Net-One Charity Shield final when they lost 2-1.
In Gweru at Ascot Stadium, Highlanders were left counting their losses as they met their nemesis How Mine in the third One-Wallet quarter final match last Saturday.
The Bulawayo giants were thrust in the lead as early as 12 minutes with a goal from a rare source, central defender Felix Chindungwe.
The lead was later cancelled by former Harare City striker, Godfrey Nguwodzawo in the 29th minute who headed home a corner kick, beating Munyaradzi Diya.
Highlanders’ top goal scorer Charles Sibanda failed to convert from the spot in the 51st minute as Veteran Ephraim Mazarura dived to his right, tipping the ball before it hit the upright and denying Bosso the lead.
After 90 minutes of play, there was no winner and the penalty lottery had to decide the Bulawayo side to join Chicken Inn and Triangle.
Mazarura was the hero as he saved two penalties in one afternoon.
First on the 51st minute and in the shoot-out, before he also converted his spot kick.
Bosso’s Welcome Ndiweni and Valentine Ndaba failed to convert their spot kicks.
In the capital, Dynamos got the better of CAPS United again in the fourth quarter final match.
Roderick Mutuma spoiled the day for Makepekepe when he tapped in a Simba Sithole cross from the left at the city end goal.
Not less than 21 000 fans watched the Harare Derby.
The One-Wallet Cup sponsors Net-One were delighted with the high turnout at the four matches.
