WITH four days left for the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) 2015 to kick off, exhibitors have begun setting up stands ahead of the five-day international trade exhibition.
There are high expectations among all stakeholders that the 56th edition of the ZITF will be bigger and better.
The town is already vibrant with locals looking forward to spill over benefits.
The prestigious annual event begins on April 28 and runs until May 2 under the theme: ‘Stimulating Exports: Seizing Opportunities to Accelerate Growth under Zim-ASSET’.
Showcase
Besides presenting local companies with an opportunity to exhibit their products and services, the International Fair will provide a platform for local companies to learn more from other international companies particularly technological advancements.
The expo will feature product groups such as machinery and expertise for infrastructure, manufacturing processes and equipment, innovation, automation and supplies for agro-processing, among others.
Countries represented at ZITF this year include, Cyprus, Botswana, China, India, Iran, Japan, Germany, USA, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Pakistan, Poland, South Africa and Zambia among others.
The business exhibition runs concurrently with sector-specific expos that include– PakPrint, the packaging and printing industry exhibition, Ultim8 Home, the home improvement expo, Scholastica, the education and careers expo and Asambeni Africa expo.
Zambian President, Edgar Lungu is expected to officially open the fair on April 30, a major highlight on Bulawayo’s business calendar.
International Business Conference
The ZITF Company will host the annual international business conference on April 29 to explore ways the country can stimulate exports.
ZITF organised the conference in partnership with the National Economic Consultative Forum.
“The programme seeks to interrogate how stimulating exports will create opportunities to accelerate economic growth,” ZITF general manager Nomathemba Ndlovu said.
“We expect close to 400 business delegates to participate.”
Vice-President, Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to officiate the business conference.
VP Mnangagwa’s key note address will centre on, ‘Accelerate Implementation of Zim-ASSET through value addition and beneficiation’.
Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) secretary general, Sindiso Ngwenya will present a paper titled, ‘Maximising value in human capital through trade in services: Lessons and Opportunities for Zimbabwe’.
Other key speakers include Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa and his secretary, William Manungo.
Boost to domestic Tourism
Hotels and up-market lodges in Bulawayo are already fully booked.
However, ZITF has invited private homeowners seeking to cash in on the annual exhibition accommodation crisis to register with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) to ensure that they maintain the expected international standards of all their domestic and foreign business visitors.

Annually, ZITF faces challenges of accommodation for foreign and local exhibitors in the city during the hosting of the premier exhibition event.
Ndlovu indicated that they had a sizeable list of executive private homes which were available for any visitor to this year’s ZITF.
She said the homes had been inspected by ZTA and met the international standard.
Ndlovu urged private homeowners to register with the ZTA regional office so as to ensure that they maintained the expected international standards of all their domestic and foreign business visitors.
Asambeni and Scholastica
Other highlights of the fair include the incentive travel workshop on April 28, 2015 that was organised in partnership with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority.
“The aim of the workshop is to demonstrate how incentives travel can be used to boost employee productivity among local corporates,” said the ZITF boss.
International incentive travel expert, Joost De Meyer (from the United States) has been invited to share his experiences and knowledge of the field.
Also running through the exhibition is the Scholastica presentations and seminars.
Industry experts and motivational speakers have been invited to share varied, relevant and up to date information covering a wide cross-section in continuing education, career and job guidance.
Fun
Children are looking forward to more face paints, candy floss, lunar parks and horse riding among other things.
