Let us be wary of some sponsors

Published on

EDITOR — I write to you to make a few contributions regarding the disappointing conduct of Walter Magaya over his handling of the Warriors issue.
It is not a secret that Magaya sponsored the Warriors, culminating in their comprehensive and commendable thumping of Liberia, but it is my considered view that the said victory was a result of the players’ efforts on the field of play.
Without taking anything away from Magaya’s gesture, there is no need to hold the nation to ransom for his unsolicited for support of the team.
No one asked him to sponsor the Warriors, therefore no one owes him a thank you as he is alleged to have demanded. As a Christian, he should know better; isn’t they teach that the right hand should know what the left hand gives.
In the same light, ZIFA must henceforth stop acting like a basket case, always dependent on charity. The games for the Warriors do not just pop up, they are known beforehand. Why can they not prepare in time, for example, the next game is next year.
And also, ZIFA should consider its sponsors and not just anyone. They should look at the agendas of potential sponsors.
With all due respect, vaMagaya must not come to us or anyone demanding a thank you. He also benefitted from the Warriors’ camping at his facility, that was free advertisement and endorsement of his facility.
In future, ZIFA must never be dictated to by people seeking cheap and free publicity under the guise of doing the nation good.
Ndatenda.
