Saddened by doctors’ strike

Published on

EDITOR — Reports that Zimbabwean Doctors have downed tools made sad reading. What is saddening and worrying is the strike comes at a time when the world has been rocked by Ebola.
Equally disappointing is the fact that it appears there is no solution in sight with regards to reaching a consensus over the problem.
Why would the Health Services Board (HSB) and the Ministry of Finance fail to deal with the issue that is a time bomb?
Who then will come to the 400 junior Doctors’ rescue if our own government cannot do that?
Ko Ebola ikauya tinotizira kupi manje?
With all due respect our learned medical practitioners deserve more than the paltry US$282 they are said to be earning considering the job they do.
If this is the figure they are getting, then we must do something, things might be hard but I am sure something can be done for our doctors.
Failure to address the issue will result in us failing to stem the brain drain scourge.
Ko mangwana tichadini kana tichisiya vana vedu vatakafundisa vachishupika nekuenda kudzimwe nyika?
There is no prize for guessing that we need all our professionals especially at this time we are rebuilding our country.
The economy needs all the best brains so that as it takes off and all sectors are adequately represented and have the necessary skills.
It is imperative that all stakeholders come together to find a lasting solution to this problem that is bedevilling the health sector.
We need to reward our professionals and not to neglect them.
It is my hope that the powers that be heed this call to listen to the concerns of the striking junior doctors so that they get back to work as a matter of urgency.
