Beware of false alarms

AS the impending transformation of the Zimbabwean economy becomes obvious, prophets of doom, who had predicted a ‘screaming’ economy that would bring down ZANU PF are now gripped with panic.
The West had forecast this demise after the imposition of illegal sanctions at the turn of the millennium.
Fifteen years down the line, the Look East Policy has instead seen mega deals from China on the verge of triggering an economic take-off likely to shake southern Africa.
But the West won’t take this lying down, hence the throwing of a red herring into the whole scenario.
Their aim is to dampen the spirits of Zimbabweans by diverting their attention from the economic boom soon to follow the implementation of the Chinese mega deals.
Elsewhere in this edition, we carry a story of how a UK ‘research’ company on African economics is predicting imminent mass demonstrations and social unrest to rock the country.
Here is an organisation, which deliberately does not want to see what the state of the nation is like, as recently enunciated by President Mugabe, who is in touch with the national economic pulse.
A distant so-called ‘research firm’, however, chooses to mislead the rest of the world by postulating an unlikely possibility.
Apparently pretending to be ignorant of the situation on the ground, this UK ‘research company’ seems to be unaware of the social and economic revolution that has taken place in this country.
The days when multinational employers ganged up with MDC to persuade workers to boycott work as a prelude to mass protests are long gone.
If they had listened to Minister Patrick Chinamasa when he presented his last National Budget they would have known better.
Maybe we better remind them that the Minister then pronounced the ‘death’ of the Rhodesian capitalist economy to be replaced by a new indigenous economy.
Zimbabweans are now mostly their own employers, be it on farms, small scale mines, vending table or a variety of other small scale enterprises.
These are the people who are expected to abandon their jobs and engage in mass demonstrations envisaged by this British firm.
Simply put they expect these workers to demonstrate against themselves.
They expect these workers to engage in social unrest and destroy their own enterprises.
But we suspect they are not that foolish.
It is only the impending mammoth economic revival that they don’t want Zimbabweans to see.
But for how long are they going to continue deliberately misinterpret events to fool the world and Zimbabweans?
If we are to go by what the President told Parliament on Tuesday, it won’t be for long.
For plans to boost the much heralded Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (Zim-ASSET) are already off the drawing board.
For instead of witnessing the social unrest predicted by this sadistic British firm, Zimbabweans will instead be witnessing significant progress in areas covering food security, energy, infrastructural development and other clusters that make up Zim-ASSET.
So as the cheer comes back to the faces of Zimbabweans as the economy kicks off despite sanctions, we must brace ourselves for more lies from these regime change agenda proponents.
Let’s be wary of their so-called research findings.
No doubt once the deals are in full swing with some Chinese also taking part in their operations, the West is soon going to label them ‘colonisers’.
But they will be here through mutual agreement as equal partners and not as imitators of our erstwhile Western colonial masters.
