We are justified to beat our chests

Published on

WE are past the half-way mark of the year.
What a year it has been so far!
This is a year in which our much touted potential has started to bear fruit.
The seed of our patience and resilience is now germinating.
Soon we will be reaping the fruits of our hard work.
We are making progress, never mind what the prophets of doom and our enemies are saying.
We are a people who remain committed to seeing our economy scale dizzy heights.
We continue to sing the song of development.
The fighting spirit being exhibited is inspiring.
The story that our foes want to tell is that nothing is happening but that is not the truth.
A lot is happening.
Half the year is gone and so much has happened and continue to happen.
We take stock, looking with our minds sharpened, our energies recharged to where we are going.
We review our aspirations as individuals and as a nation.
Plans laid out in the various arenas are unfolding, as they must, and many sectors are recording respectable growth.
We never mourn our failures or missed opportunities.
We use them to galvanize our minds, hearts and souls.
We take charge of our future as we have with our past.
There are many good things that have happened in this country since the beginning of the year.
I am humbled by the increased calls from the manufacturing sector for more support.
The support has indeed been provided by Government through Statutory Instrument 64 (SI64) of 2016.
Local manufacturers have done well in restoring national pride.
The shops are now filled with locally produced goods.
Capacity utilisation continues to increase by the day.
Many small-to-medium players in business are eager to get to the next level in their operations.
Soon we will get there.
The story of our agricultural sector is there for everyone to see.
Our story is how we have demystified the notion that it was only whites who could keep the agriculture sector afloat.
But then the combined efforts of the Command Agriculture Initiative, the Presidential Inputs Support Scheme and the sweat of our farmers have brought a bumper harvest.
We will beat our chests because to the world we have shown that; yes, we can.
Players, especially in the agro-processing industry, are calling for more raw materials from farmers.
Construction of power generating units continues in earnest.
By this time next year, we will be in a position to generate enough electricity for everyone in the country.
In 2019 we will be exporting power.
That is how beautiful things become when you work hard.
All good things naturally flow your way.
Mega construction projects are already underway.
We will not talk about what is already known.
We will talk about new projects.
Soon we will be witnessing the upgrading of the Harare International Airport.
There are many good things happening in this country.
So far so good.
