First Lady disarms ‘independent’ media

THOSE familiar with soccer will not have difficulty in embracing the undeniable fact that a hat-trick is the ultimate in a match and that Lionel Messi, that diminutive Argentine great, is currently the undisputed king of football.
It is in the same vein that the First Lady Amai Dr Grace Mugabe is arguably the queen of Zimbabwean politics and here is why:
After being ferociously bombarded by daily dosages of misinformation disguised as ‘news’ on the goings on in the ruling ZANU PF over the past few months by the so-called ‘independent’ media, there had to be an end to the madness and someone to rein in the lunatic fringe media.
In media this is called agenda setting.
But this is ZANU PF we are talking about.
This is the revolutionary party from which the independence that those in the so-called ‘independent’ media now abuse to suit the unquenchable desires of their masters.
This is Zimbabwe where the media can never steer the course the country is designed and destined to take.
Within the so-called ‘independent’ media circles in the country, there is an unflinching and sometimes ridiculous pampering and massaging of inflated egos, born out of a misplaced wish that they can determine events in the country and in ZANU PF.
In their self-assumed positions as purveyors of ‘intricate’ details of ZANU PF and Government positions has been a tragic path of self-inflicted damage to both careers and dignity.
The lies are just too many to take, to comprehend even.
In their blinkered eyes, ZANU PF has split and bizarrely Amai Mugabe is now the President!
If Amai Dr Mugabe is not president, sometimes she is said to be eyeing the post of vice-president.
This is why last week happened; happened to their chagrin and absolute horror because Amai Dr Mugabe was supposed to dress down Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa and at worst ‘destroy’ him and his ‘faction’.
In just three days, last week, Amai Dr Mugabe had dampened hopes of those wont on the destruction of ZANU PF and she did it with some swagger that comes with being a star player in the game.
She drew the first blood, scoring a gem of a goal on Thursday in the historic and iconic Mbare suburb, still they were adamant, not shaken and foolishly defiant.
“Ini ndirikumira pano semukadzi wapresident wenyu, semunhu wamakati atungamire madzimai ndobva ndagumira ipapo, full stop nga,” she said.
(I am here as the president’s wife and as a leader of the Women’s League, full stop)
“Vangataure zvavo kuti Amai vanoda chinzvimbo asi handina chandinoda.”
(People may accuse me of aspiring for other positions but that’s not true)
On Friday, she completed her brace (two goals in a soccer match) in Mberengwa where VP Mnangagwa was supposed to be torn to shreds and this time it was a stunning goal, one made in heaven.
“Ndanga ndichiti vanhu vanoda kuabuser vaMnangagwa neni,” said Amai Dr Mugabe.
“VaMnangagwa is my close friend, my best friend.”
“Kubva kudhara ndisati ndatombonzi First Lady ndichidya matomatoes kubva kwavari. (From way back I have been getting tomatoes from Cde Mnangagwa and giving him potatoes in return)
“Vachinditumira zvinhu kuState House, ini ndichivapawo mapotatoes nemanhanga.
“Handityi kudya zvinhu zvinobva kwavaMnangagwa.
(I am not afraid to eat farm produce given by Cde Mnangagwa)
“I have respect for this man.”
Everything about Mberengwa was just not what the so-called ‘independent’ media wanted or wished for.
Then on Saturday, she capped her usually fine performance with a thunderbolt, in her home province of Mashonaland East as she addressed thousands of supporters in Murehwa.
“Zvigaro zvishoma, hazvikwane tese,” she said.
(Positions are not enough for everybody)
“Zvigaro zvinokwana vanhu vashoma.
(They are only for a few people)
“Zvino ini ndinogutsikana nezvandiri.
(I am satisfied with what I have)
“Iyi position yasecretary for women’s affairs yakaoma handidi kukunyeperai.”
For once, that side of the media had been contained and put in their rightful positions as mere spectators in this game.
With the aim of keeping the nation in perpetual suspense, a strategy that has worked to maximum effect in nations founded on Western hegemonic politics, the media in this country had their work cut-out; pitting ZANU PF officials against each; frantically trying to dismantle the ruling party.
The strategy was crafted thus; the First Lady is entangled with VP Mnangagwa in a battle to succeed President Robert Mugabe; that ZANU PF is crumbling along factional lines and even weird suggestions built around the mischievous and misplaced narrative that the December conference in Victoria Falls would be what they said — an ‘elective platform’.
Yet a simple perusal of the ZANU PF constitution shows that any congress is elective because this is when new leadership is installed while a conference is a gathering where a review of programmes lined up during the preceding year is made.
So the ZANU PF constitution has been amended in the newsrooms and the party will be going for an ‘elective conference’ from which Amai Dr Mugabe would be appointed one of the VPs, taking Cde Mnangagwa’s place.
Amai Dr Mugabe wants to take over President Robert Mugabe’s position and the newsrooms have once again endorsed her ‘presidency’!
It is our hope that after the Lionel Messi of Zimbabwean politics show, we will for once live our lives detached from the noise from this so-called ‘independent’ media.
Focus should now be on the implementation of mega deals and China is coming at the right time.
Let those with ears listen.
