Of false prophets and media thugs

ABOUT three-to-four weeks ago, a terrible disease triggered by the just-ended general elections broke out in Harare and later on spread to other areas.
At first, it started as general excitement caused by the general elections.
However, it soon deteriorated into a very strange kind of political schizophrenia which attacked mostly members of the MDC Alliance.
Schizophrenia is a disease of the mind.
In this case, the political schizophrenia which attacked the MDC Alliance people was caused by the MDC Alliance leaders wanting their leader Nelson Chamisa to win the presidency.
The above political schizophrenia made many MDC Alliance people speak in tongues, with everyone of them becoming a present day prophet Isiah of biblical fame. They began to recite the prophesies of prophet Isiah directing their chants at ZANU PF people who were completely surprised by that sudden turn of events.
Below are the prophesies of prophet Isiah MDC Alliance people recited at street corners, churches, bars, workplaces and funerals, among other places, all made with the intention of turning Chamisa into a demigod who would easily win the general election.
“The Government of the promised son. The people that walked in darkness will see light. For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given and the Government will be upon his shoulder. And his name will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
They went on to say what his rule was going to bring and went on to court Isiah again.
“The wolf shall also dwell with the lamb and the leopard shall lie down with the kid and the calf and the young lion and the fatting together.
The eyes of the blind shall be opened and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.
Then the lame shall leap like a deer and the tongue of the dumb sing.
They shall obtain joy and gladness and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.”
ZANU PF supporters, with their mouths agape, wondered who the miracle worker was who was referred to by quotations from Isiah.
They asked: “Gentlemen, ladies who is this great person you are talking about through your prophesies?”
In reply, MDC Alliance prophets, for emphasis, recited a poem from the great Roman poet Vigil called ‘The Eclogue’ which is very similar to Isiah’s sayings.
“There is going to be a golden age.
The creator of this age will be a wonder child.
He will free mankind from sin and pacify and rule the world. The goats will come home by themselves with milk-filled udders.
Nor will cattle be in fear of great lions.
The serpent will perish and the treacherous herb of poison will perish.”
Now, who was this fellow whose greatness the MDC Alliance prophets were using Isiah and Vigil to predict his coming?
They answered in Latin: “He is going to be pater patria, pontifex marximus, devi filius!”
What does this mean, ZANU PF asked?
It means: “He is going to be the father of the nation, the chief priest of all chief priests, son of God.”
“However, the above refers to Augustus Caesar the first Roman Emperor?” ZANU PF retorted.
“Yes its true, but don’t forget that he is going to be the new Caesar. What about ZANU PF? What is he going to do with them now that he is coming as the new Caesar?” ZANU PF people asked with bated breath.
On hearing the above, the MDC Alliance leaders went back to recite the sayings of Isiah again. “He has utterly destroyed them. He has given them to the slaughter.
Their stench shall rise from their corpses.
And the mountains shall be melted with their blood.”
“Who is this guy?” ZANU PF asked, and the answer they got finally was: “Nelson Chamisa!”
But then, people must be serious.
How could mature Zimbabweans shout biblical verses until their voices got hoarse praising Chamisa to the skies, saying he was going to win the elections without evidence to back that claim?
A strange thing took place a month or so ago. From nowhere, a mania – a Chamisa mania suddenly gripped Harare.
Everywhere you went, you heard people saying Chamisa was going to win the general elections.
At first, some of us thought it was one of those many jokes that are invented during general elections, but no, MDC Alliance people were pretty serious!
They believed their propaganda, hence the drums announcing the forthcoming ‘big win’ of Chamisa were beaten at every street corner in Harare.
To make matters worse, the South African media, especially television channels, joined in the ‘madness’.
They took the role of ‘pure media thugs,’ attacking ZANU PF every time they talked about the general election in Zimbabwe.
One of the channels went to the extent of employing a so-called Zimbabwean commentator who appeared to be mentally deranged. The man spoke as if he was possessed or high on drugs. He would sing the praises of Chamisa to the heavens while giving ZANU PF and its President no chance of winning.
ZANU PF bashing became the order of the day by those media thugs.
It was highly irresponsible for people who should have known better to give Chamisa a godly chance of romping home to victory in the past elections without any evidence to back it.
The bad thing about this was that the general MDC Alliance supporters believed the false prophesies made by the MDC Alliance and South African media.
Therefore, when the elections were held and it turned out that ZANU PF had, in fact, won by more than two thirds majority, MDC Alliance supporters found it hard to believe.
They began venting their frustrations by gathering and engaging in low intensity rioting.
It was wrong for the false prophets of the MDC Alliance and their South Africa media thugs to preach a high intensity but false sermon that Chamisa was going to win when he didn’t campaign seriously the way ZANU PF did.
ZANU PF worked hard and earned the deserved victory.
