“THE whiteman is very clever. He came quietly and peaceably with his religion. We were amused at his foolishness and allowed him to stay. Now he has won our brothers and our clan can no longer act like one. He has put a knife on the things that held us together and we have fallen apart,” writes Chinua Achebe in Things Fall Apart, bemoaning the decay of African culture.
Achebe wrote Things Fall Apart decades ago, but his words still hold true for the contemporary African society.
When Achebe penned Things Fall Apart it, colonialism was the common enemy among Africans, but today, neo-colonialism and ‘modernisation’ are slowly eating up the little Africa has left.
The just-ended Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Bulawayo is one example.
For the first time, prostitutes exhibited at this year’s edition and despite the outcry in various sections of society and social media, the hidden agenda of the whiteman was achieved.
It is important to note that prostitutes who exhibited were assisted by a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that advocates rights of gays, lesbians and prostitutes.
The question asked by many people after the event was: How could organisers of the ZITF permit prostitutes to exhibit and to what benefit were the prostitutes to all who attended the fair, especially children?
In a previous article in The Patriot, Dr Irene Mahamba noted that prostitutes, gays and lesbians are not part of Zimbabwe’s tradition.
Said Dr Mahamba: “The agenda of prostitutes and gays and lesbians is not endemic to Zimbabwe; it does not originate from among our people.
The funds that sustain these groups are not ours; they are foreign.
Among blacks, there are things that are not acceptable because they are against hunhu/ubuntu.”
African societies which used to regard prostitution and homosexuality as taboo are slowly embracing such practices due to the growing influence of the Western values and norms.
Prostitution and homosexuality, which were shunned in Africa, are slowly being accepted under the guise of ‘commercial sex work’ and ‘human rights’.
Africa presents herself as a continent ‘cursed’ by a way of living that is borrowed and which erodes hunhu/ubuntu.
Various NGOs and influential individuals from the West have made it their mandate to push the agenda of the whiteman to completely erase African values from the face of the earth.
The whiteman still has his interest in the economic, social and political affairs of the continent.
Aid is one way that is being used to entice Africans to change their stance on the issue of ‘sexual rights’.
Different European governments make use of donors who come to Africa with ideas of funding various projects while their hidden agenda is for Africa to embrace prostitution, gays and lesbian rights.
Despite homosexuality being regarded as taboo in Africa, former President of Malawi Joyce Banda had to repeal the ban on homosexuality and on same-sex marriages in order to appease foreign donors.
No doubt, Africa’s former colonisers want to maintain the donor dependency syndrome among Africans.
Africans continue to be reduced to mere beggars in exchange for embracing foreign cultural values that destroy social and economic development of future generations.
It is against this background that, arguably, the agenda of the West is to stop the growing population of Africa by encouraging Africans to embrace same sex marriages.
The whiteman is coming up with programmes and workshops that promote lesbians, gay, bisexual and transgender rights in Africa.
George Soros, an American currency speculator of Hungarian Jewish descent, is notorious for not only funding regime change agents in Africa, but ‘sexual rights’ programmes as well.
Soros focuses on spreading ‘human rights’ awareness among prostitutes.
He once funded the Open Society Initiative for East Africa in partnership with Media Development Africa (MEDEVA) to broadcast the first ever television programme featuring sexual minority rights in Uganda.
The Open Society Institute is on record saying the programme was necessary in order for people ‘to embrace sexual rights’.
“Uganda is a country that currently criminalises homosexuality and commercial sex work and has repeatedly made efforts to silence sexual rights activists,” said Open Society Institute in a statement.
Open Society Institute wants Uganda and other African countries to expand rights for homosexuals and to legalise prostitution.
The eagerness of the West for Africa to adopt Western ways was also made clear when the former US President Barack Obama visited Kenya in 2015.
Obama clashed with President Uhuru Kenyatta after advocating gay rights.
Meanwhile, Africa will be turning 55 years since the formation of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), now African Union (AU), and Africans continue to honour this ‘achievement’ which brought about ‘emancipation’ of the whole continent.
As Africa celebrate such an achievement, it is important for Africans to remind each other of the African culture of unity Chinua Achebe writes about in Things Fall Apart: “A man who calls his kinsmen to a feast does not do so to save them from starving. They all have food in their own homes. When we gather together in the moonlit village ground, it is not because of the moon. Every man can see it in his own compound. We come together because it is good for kinsmen to do so.”
