EDITOR – THANK you for covering a story on how the Mighty Warriors were treated before, during and after the Rio Olympics.
It really explained the hidden things we do not know about how soccer players are being treated.
And of late, the story of how the Warriors travelled to Guinea is disheartening.
They were scheduled to go on Thursday but they finally left Zimbabwe on Saturday at 8pm, when everyone thought they were no longer going. I think the Zimbabwe Football Association will never change.
Philip Chiyangwa must be honest.
He promised these shenanigans would be a thing of the past, but still, ZIFA is still miles away from being logistically and technically organised.
Nobody is talking about the Mighty Warriors after Rio, yet considering that they also have a tournament this November in Cameroon, the African Women Cup of Nations.
The ladies are currently resting at their homes, while other teams from other countries are busy preparing.
No wonder we always get disappointed when bad results come.
Are we are really concerned about our soccer?
The Warriors will take part in the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon early next year and there are three weekends set by FIFA for international games before the end of the year.
Considering the Warriors are not taking part in the World Cup Qualifiers, it is wise to organise friendlies now before it’s too late.
And imagine if the Warriors begin to prepare now, we will definitely shock Shakes Mashaba, the unpopular South African coach who has already painted us ‘dark horses’ of the upcoming tournament.
Please Chiyangwa and your ZIFA, organise meaningful friendlies now.
FIFA has given you ample time to prepare.
Unesu C,
Harare.
