Chickens come home to roost

Published on

OUR problem with MDC-T since its formation has always been that although it is a political party ostensibly led by black faces, it represents the interests of whites.
We all saw when it was formed in 1999 how white farmers almost fell over each other as they rushed to finance a party they hoped would help restore the privileged position of whites at the expense of indigenes in an independent Zimbabwe.
Recent events at Harvest House have seen chickens come home to roost as the whites, who control the MDC-T purse, react to the hammering of their party at the polls on July 31 2013.
Now the triumvirate of Roy Bennett, Iain Kay and Eddie Cross — all white — has gone public in calling for the ouster of Morgan Tsvangirai as the leader of MDC-T.
These are the very whites, who at one time pretended to be so loyal to the leadership of Tsvangirai that the former trade unionist probably even believed he was white.
Remember at one time Tsvangirai as Prime Minister was prepared to leave the post of deputy minister of agriculture vacant indefinitely, until Bennett was sworn in.
But what has gone wrong now?
The interests of the white benefactors of MDC-T, which hinge on the control of our resources on behalf of white capital, are permanent.
Deep down to them personalities are irrelevant
The annihilation of the MDC-T in the July 31 2013 harmonised elections turned out to be a vote of no confidence in the leadership of Tsvangirai as far as Bennett and company were concerned.
Forget about the public pronouncements by the West and the MDC-T that the elections were not free and fair and that they were even rigged.
This is mere posturing.
They know ZANU PF won fairly and the buck stops at Tsvangirai.
And the white triumvirate on behalf of the West is convinced that Tsvangirai is not good enough to help them achieve the objectives of the MDC-T.
Enter Elton Mangoma.
Mangoma probably backed by the financial might of Bennett and company has submitted a document calling on Tsvangirai to retire.
Without the financial backing of the white controllers, it looks like the days of Tsvangirai as leader of the MDC-T are numbered
But whether the party has Tsvangirai, Elton Mangoma, Tendai Biti or Elias Mudzuri as its leader, the difference will remain the same.
The MDC-T like it was in 1999 will still remain a white project shrouded in a black cloth.
Their black leadership will always fight from the whiteman’s corner.
For instance, in his recent so-called ‘state of the nation’ address, Tsvangirai seemed to be expressing his nostalgia for the defunct Inclusive Government.
To him that is the only way to solve our present economic challenges.
And he did not even mention sanctions, something the Zimbabwean voter punished his party for on July 31 2013.
Even one of his main rivals for leadership is no different.
At a panel discussion recently, Biti suggested to a disbelieving audience that a coup was the solution to the country’s economic problems.
In his diatribe against the ZANU PF Government, not even once did he mention sanctions.
And yet over a million Zimbabweans have already signed a petition calling for the lifting of the illegal sanctions, which are the main cause of the country’s economic challenges.
It doesn’t matter who will eventually emerge as the leader of the MDC-T, what is certain is that, that person will never criticise sanctions.
After all that is the trump card of the West in their endeavour to bring about regime change.
