Clear Matopos of Rhodes

Published on

EDITOR — I ONCE wrote a letter asking why we continue to keep Cecil John Rhodes’ remains at our holy shrine in Matopo.
As I said before, there were calls by the likes of Mandiitawepi Chimene to have the remains exhumed and sent back to England, but it seems like they were in vain.
As we approach the festive season, it hurts me to say that a lot of white people are already trickling in to celebrate their so-called hero who wanted to conquer Africa from Cape to Cairo.
They come and pay their respects to Rhodes, his partner who was also buried beside him at Njelele, Leander Star Jameson and the Allan Wilson Patrol that was wiped out by our warriors at Shangani River.
Why should we let these people continue to insult us in such a manner?
I have lived in Bulawayo for years and I frequent Matopo so I always find myself getting angry when I come across these white folks making their way to our sacred Njelele.
They actually have their ‘get togethers’, and braai there, celebrating Christmas and in the process honouring their kith and kin who once made life miserable for us in the then Rhodesia.
Please do not get me wrong. I am not being racist, but the truth is it is high time we exhume those homosexuals on our sacred shrine and send them back where they belong in England.
They came here and we thought they were friends not knowing that they would kill us and steal our land and cattle.
They even wanted to kill our King Lobengula and we are supposed to take our children on tours to Njelele and say ‘here lies brave men’?
Is that not being insane?
Responsible authorities must do something about this.
Please let us exhume these colonisers and thieves from our scared shrine forthwith.

Still Bitter
