Did CAPS United sell out?

THE 2018 Castle Lager Premier League (PSL) enters the homestretch this weekend with, once again, focus firmly on the relegation battle.
Former champions Dynamos heaved a sigh of relief when they uncharacteristically dismissed bitter rivals CAPS United 2-1 in a rearranged Harare Derby fixture on Sunday.
They now sit on 11th position on the log but just two points shy of the drop zone and are hoping to build on their stellar performance against CAPS United in their remaining four fixtures.
It has been an exciting season in which teams like FC Platinum, Ngezi Platinum, Chicken Inn, CAPS United, Triangle United, Harare City, ZPC Kariba, Black Rhinos and Highlanders have been on top of their game.
As with other races, there comes a time to seperate the men from the boys.
Bottom placed Shabanie Mine, Bulawayo City and Mutare City’s fate seems to have already been sealed as they are headed for Division One football.
They need to win all their remaining five matches and hope the other teams trying to fend off relegation drop points in the process.
Dynamos, Chapungu United, Nichrut, Bulawayo Chiefs and Yadah Stars are either sitting precariously just above the relegation cut-off points or are staring the dreaded chop in the face.
They are fighting to avoid the last relegation slot.
With five games left before the season ends, Dynamos should continue with their quest for survival.
DeMbare have endured a difficult season that cost Lloyd Mutasa his job last month.
Fast-fading champions Dynamos came from behind to beat CAPS United to move out of the relegation zone — at least for now.
Kingstone Nkhata and Valentine Kadonzvo overturned a Joel Ngodzo first-half strike.
Interim Dynamos head coach Lloyd Chigowe is famed for producing several players from the junior ranks.
So he is aware of the need to keep their heads down in the final stretch.
He might save the team from relegation.
His assistant Murape Murape stamped his signature long back during Kalisto Pasuwa’s tenure.
Fans composed a song in honour of the dimunitive former goal poacher, Murape Murape.
The choir that had once disappeared in some previous matches pitting Dynamos could visibly be seen at the Vietnam Bay singing praises for the boys.
“Monya ane cremora muviri wose,” rekindled the memory of the past years of Dynamos glory.
Chigowe has since become a darling of the club’s fans.
They believe he has what it takes to keep the fading Zimbabwe champions afloat.
From 29 matches, the fading Harare giants are on position 11 with 34 points, two shy of relegation.
Three more wins in their remaining five games would do them a lot of good though.
If they can keep or improve that recent form, Dynamos could pull through.
Dynamos face Black Rhinos in their next assignment.
Ironically, Black Rhinos coach Herbert Maruwa was groomed at Dynamos.
Maruwa used to be part of the Dynamos technical team. This was during Pasuwa’s reign when the club won four consecutive straight titles between 2011 and 2014.
The Harare giants should not expect any favours from the army side.
They will also play Herentals and Triangle at home, before taking on Mutare City and Nichrut in their last two matches.
The Airforce outfit, Chapungu United, have 33 points and are a rung below Dynamos.
Bulawayo Chiefs looked like they were safe from relegation but having not won a single match in their last five games — they are in danger of being relegated.
Their remaining matches are against Chicken Inn, Shabanie, Ngezi Platinum Stars, Highlanders and ZPC Kariba.
Yadah occupy the last relegation slot with 32 points.
They travel to Mutare City next before facing CAPS United and later hosts Bulawayo City.
Yadah finish off their campaign with a home match against Harare City.
This will be after playing Chapungu United at Ascot Stadium.
If they win three and avoid defeats in the other two, they should be safe.
