Farmers, the ball is in your court

EDITOR – I WOULD like to commend Government for once again showing its support for resettled farmers and engaging partners who support the agriculture sector.

It was good news to hear that vetting for this year’s Command Agriculture programme has begun.

The programme has benefitted farmers and if it continues,  positive results are expected.

Government has played its part and the ball is in the hands of the farmers.

I urge the beneficiaries to put the inputs to good use.

The gesture by Government will indeed go a long way in improving the operations of the farmers.

The support will certainly help transform the local agricultural sector that had folded, to ensure the country attains food security.

The country has, of late, been receiving erratic rains and this season’s predictions indicate that the first half of the season will bring normal rains.

So, it is important that once inputs are availed, farmers start planting to maximise on the rains and then rely on irrigation in the second part of the season.

For long, farmers have been calling for support and now that support has been given, we do not expect farmers who will benefit to continue crying foul.

Murewa.
