Let’s take Ebola seriously

Published on

EDITOR – LAST week I went to South Africa and realised something when I was coming back home.
People are not being screened for Ebola when entering Zimbabwe.
I don’t know if the relevant Ministry is aware of this.
If my memory serves me right this screening facility was set up at the Harare International Airport and I remember Minister David Parirenyatwa being taken around and authorities saying they were ready to deal with Ebola.
However, this is not the case around the country’s borders as people are just getting in the country without being screened.
Surely not everyone comes to Zimbabwe by air and Cde Parirenyatwa and counterparts must take heed.
Actually it’s important to note that the majority of people who enter Zimbabwe everyday do so by road so I don’t understand how our government can miss this or is it that they are not taking this issue seriously.
We must as a country put in place measures to keep this disease out of our country. Currently Zimbabwe is the place to be for many foreigners because it is naturally a lucrative country so if we are not careful we may find ourselves struggling to contain Ebola, should there be a breakout.
Let us be ready as a country and my advice to our government is we must take Ebola seriously otherwise tichachema mangwana.
