Madzimai bounces back

Published on

LETHAL striker Rutendo ‘Madzimai’ Makore has bounced back into the Mighty Warriors squad named by Zimbabwe senior women’s coach Sithethelelwe Sibanda early this week.
The team will face Zambia in the African Women Cup of Nations qualifiers to be played across the Zambezi.
The battle of Zambezi, as matches between the two nations is affectionately known, is a must-win for Zimbabwe to qualify for the continental soccer showcase slated for later this year.
The two-legged qualifiers will see the reverse fixture played at Rufaro Stadium on June 10.
Sibanda retained the majority of players who were part of the squad which beat Namibia in both the home and away legs in the first round.
Makore, who missed the earlier matches for the Mighty Warriors due to an ankle injury is now fit to play for the flagship team. Makore, who was playing in Spain for Sporting de Huelva, will be needed for the experience she gained in her six-month stay in Europe.
Makore, who was the COSAFA Women Championships golden boot winner, will be needed ahead of the crucial qualifiers.
An away goal or draw will do Zimbabwe good.
The finals are slated for Ghana from November 17 to December 1.
Preparations for the tie were expected to have started at ZIFA Village in Mt Hampden, but it could not be established by the time of going to press whether training had begun.
