Managing a polarised nation

Published on

OUR people have become so engrossed in party politics that it is difficult for them to look beyond their political parties.
They now forget that the country comes first before anything else.
They seem oblivious to the fact that it is the nation that gives birth to political parties, not the other way round.
They seem to forget we are now way past the election period where contestations of party ideas took centre stage.
They also seem to forget that beyond elections, there is a country that needs everyone’s attention.
We have gone through that period.
We are now in a new phase.
We are in the process of restoring, restructuring and rebuilding our great nation.
All that requires everyone’s attention and focus.
We cannot continue holding on to our parties’ interests at the expense of national interest.
The ‘Iwe neni tine basa/Mina lawe silomsebenzi’ mantra must now come into full force.
But there is a sad reality that is negating all efforts to revive the economy.
We have a clique who say they cannot be part of the rebuilding agenda as long as it is coming from ZANU PF.
Yet the compelling and compounding reality is that this is not about ZANU PF or President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
This is about Zimbabwe, our great nation.
This is about the current and future generations.
This is about putting Zimbabwe on the global economic map.
This is about reviving Zimbabwe’s economy.
This is about making Zimbabwe great again.
Events that took place last week might have invoked serious questions about our past, present and future.
It was disheartening to see some Zimbabweans sitting on their laurels and marvelling at the runaway exchange rates that were obviously being manipulated by some malicious forces.
It was quite a spectacle, but a disappointing one at that, to notice some Zimbabweans celebrating the unjustified and wanton price hikes by some unscrupulous businesspeople.
This is an issue that we have talked about in the past.
This is an issue that we will continue talking about in the near future.
There is something tragically wrong with the mentality of some of our people.
There is something untoward about some mindsets in our midst.
How one believes he/she can get to State House on the back of people’s suffering is an archaic mentality that belongs to the ancient world.
Illegal economic sanctions were imposed on this country with the intention of alienating ZANU PF from the masses.
We all know that this strategy failed dismally.
We all know it will continue to fail in future.
We all know its authors are slowly drifting from their hard line stance towards re-engagement.
The policies that Government is working on will in the long-term bear the desired results.
Those who still believe they can hold this country to ransom will sooner, rather than later, realise the futility of their plans, if one can call them that.
They will, in the near future, begin to play catch-up in a prosperous Zimbabwe.
All that President Mnangagwa has to do is to continue with the trajectory that he is currently pursuing.
The economy must unite the people.
