MDC-T is the home of violence

Published on

EDITOR — Thank you for according me this opportunity to contribute to your esteemed newspaper.
I have noted with concern the issue that is taking place in the MDC-T, especially in light of the elections that are going to be held this year.
What is happening in the MDC-T following the passing on of Morgan Tsvangirai is nothing new. Threats with unspecified action were being thrown back and forth among the leadership while the body of their leader is still warm.
We witnessed that during the October 2002 elections when MDC-T youths went on a rampage and left the likes of Trudy Stevenson and Professor Welshman Ncube for dead.
That culminated in the MDC-T’s first split. That trend has continued with the thumping of Elton Steers Mangoma who was brutally assaulted by rowdy party youths after the latter accused the MDC-T leader, the late Morgan Tsvangirai, of failing to steer the party forward.
With the current impasse, we are going to witness another round of violence.
What is interesting is that the MDC-T, which has been harping about so-called electoral reforms and a level playing field, is the one violating the peace and tranquillity that the country is enjoying.
Judging from its recent past, the barring of Elias Mudzuri from entering Harvest House is a clearest sign yet that the issue of leadership is going to escalate into an explosive situation.
I urge MDC-T leaders to put their house in order and not disturb the country’s peace.
We are presently working towards improving the economy and we do not want unnecessary disturbances.
