EDITOR — I WRITE to you as a concerned citizen of this country who has been appalled by the behaviour exhibited by our Members of Parliament (MPs) at Phandari Lodge last week as widely reported by the media over the weekend.
An opportunity to discuss the serious National Budget issue almost fell victim to the MPs’ senseless love of money.
It is even shocking that Parliament business was disrupted by ‘angry’ MPs who wanted, of all things, Ipads.
It got worse when they demanded that they be given security aides so as to improve their status in society.
Editor, if this is what our MPs are really demanding, it is ridiculous!
We need to be serious as a country!
It is a known fact that when these MPs campaigned to be voted into Parliament, they came telling us, the electorate, that they would represent our interests in the House of Assembly.
We are going towards elections and these MPs are showing their true colours.
We wonder what message they will give us when they come to canvass for our votes. They appear to be representing their interests.
In as much as it is logical for one to be paid for whatever job that one would have done, it is imperative that the MPs take cognisance of the fact that they were elected to serve the people first.
I hope sanity will prevail and that Speaker of Parliament, Advocate Jacob Mudenda, will continue to be firm with those errant MPs.
