ZIMBABWE’S cricket fortunes on the international front have not changed in the recent past. The latest International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings show Zimbabwe on position 11 on the One Day International (ODI).
The latest review was published on May 1.
Zimbabwe are rooted on the 11th position and have Ireland behind them on the log occupying 12th position.
On the Twenty20 cricket series, Zimbabwe are on the same position but ranked out of 18.
The inactivity by Zimbabwe on the international front continues to affect their ratings. The losses also account for the poor rankings.
With 36 matches played, Zimbabwe have earned 1 640 points with a rating of 46. Afghanistan who have become Zimbabwe’s bogey side are the highest ranked associate side occupying 10th position.
The Middle East side have played lesser games than Zimbabwe. Afghanistan have played 28 and earned 1 463 points with a rating of 52.
In the T20s, Zimbabwe have played 13 games, earning 842. For their efforts, the Chevrons have been rated 65.
Four years ago, Zimbabwe were ranked together with Bangladesh and Pakistan. The game for the Asian sides has improved better than Zimbabwe. Pakistan are now the third best T20 playing nation in the world while Bangladesh are two places above Zimbabwe on the log.
Scotland are now ranked better than Zimbabwe in the shortest version of the game. The Scottish side has played 11 matches, amassing 737 points with a rating of 67. They have played fewer matches than Zimbabwe in the T20, showing the Chevrons have been performing dismally in the game.
Pakistan and New Zealand are the biggest climbers in the period under review as the Kiwis secured 125 points to earn the top spot while England and Pakistan share the second position. Pakistan were seventh last year.
Zimbabwe’s inactivity in the game has resulted in the lower rankings. Another fact is the poor results that fail them to earn more points in the game.
