Remembering 9/11

Published on

THE War on Terror was launched by America following the September 11 2001 (9/11) attacks.
The American establishment claims that since its commencement in 2001, the war on terror has made progress in eliminating international terrorism.

If anything, terrorism has increased and America has become a perpetrator of terrorist acts in the name of eradicating global terror groups.
When you have a war that goes on for more than 11 years, the lines become blurry as to who exactly is fighting who and why they are fighting.
The Bush Administration defined the following objectives in the War on Terror:
Defeat terrorists such as Osama Bin Laden, Abu Musab al Zarqawi and demolish their organisations.
Identify, locate and demolish terrorists along with their organisations.
Deny sponsorship, support and sanctuary to terrorists.
End the state sponsorship of terrorism.
Establish and maintain an international standard of accountability with regard to combating terrorism.
Strengthen and sustain the international effort to combat terrorism.
Work with willing and able States.
Persuade reluctant States.
Compel unwilling States.
Interdict and disorder material support for terrorists.
Abolish terrorist sanctuaries and havens.
Defend US citizens and interests at home and abroad.
The war on terror has turned most of the developing world against America.
America has moved from being the world’s policeman into the world’s bully.
Our presidents have lost credibility and while other world leaders want to remain in our good books their people back home despise America for her acts of terror and bullying tactics.
Any country with a substantial Muslim population is within America’s crosshairs because America believes that their religion is a threat to American interests.
Despite that America recognises the freedom of worship, there is an unmentioned clause, you are free to worship which ever god you want as long as he is not Allah.
Despite the significant Muslim population in America how come that constituency is not represented in Congress?
Was Obama during his first presidential campaign not smeared as being a Muslim and therefore a terrorist by association.
It is these little nuances within the America that point towards our nation’s agenda where the Arab world is concerned.
The war on terror has made the government bankrupt.
China owns the largest chunk of America’s debt.
Yes, China, the country every politician in Washington points to as a State that has no qualms abusing human rights.
Budget cuts on social services have seen an increase in schools functioning without the necessary materials, teachers are forced to make do with little or no resources in public schools especially those that cater to minorities, the health system has all, but collapsed, a significant number of America’s children are living below the poverty line.
All this while America spends billions abroad fighting a war whose end is not in sight.
America has not ‘won’ in Afghanistan, no matter how many officials announce this victory at press conferences.
The Taliban that America went into Afghanistan to destroy is not only alive and kicking, but it opened an office in Doha, Qatar.
The Taliban has been sending representatives to conference on Afghanistan in Germany, Japan and France.
Over the last two years America has been meeting Taliban representatives.
Al Qaeda, Bin Laden’s terror group, has become America’s ally in Syria in the fight against President Assad.
Al Qaeda remains operational in Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Spain, Germany, China, the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Al Qaeda is reportedly pushing into new areas in North and West Africa.
They operate in Somalia, Kenya, Libya and Algeria.
The terror group has affiliates in Senegal, Mauritania, Mali, Niger and Nigeria.
Fearful of attacks by Al Qaeda, America recently closed 21 embassies and consulates for a period including Egypt, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Djibouti, Bahrain, and Bangladesh.
The Washington post in April this year reported that in the minds of most Americans their government has not been winning the war on terrorism for nearly a decade.
A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey conducted in 2012 found that only 47 percent of likely voters in America believed that the country was winning the war on terror.
Even months after Osama Bin laden was killed in 2011, a Gallop poll showed just 42 percent of Americans thought their side was winning while another 46 percent said neither side was winning and nine percent said the terrorists were winning.
In fact, the only times when a majority of the American people thought their country was winning were in the months after the 9/11 attacks and the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
While conspiracy theorists claim that the 9/11 attacks were a set-up by several players including the state of Israel, oil companies; there is one thing that remains constant; the resulting effects of 9/11 attacks is that the world has been thrown into a war where many are spectators, victims and powerless to stop because they do not have the military might to do so.
According to General Leonid Ivanshov, who was the Russian armed forces Chief of Staff when the 9/11 attacks took place;
“Terrorism is the weapon used in a new type of war.
“Today’s international terrorism is a phenomenon that combines the use by State and non–State political structures as a means to attain their political objectives through people’s intimidation, psychological and social destabilisation, the elimination of resistance from power organisations and the creation of appropriate conditions for the manipulation of the countries’ policies and the behaviour of people.”
This war on terror has not just affected people living in distant lands, but it has opened the door for the American government to oppress its own people under the guise of national security.
In October 2001, Congress passed the USA Patriot Act which gave law enforcement officials sweeping new powers to conduct searches without warrants, monitor financial transactions, eavesdrop, detain and deport in secret individuals suspected of being terrorists.
The Department of Homeland Security Act of 2002, Military tribunals, Guantanamo Bay Detention Facility, the National Defence Authorisation Act are but some of the many examples of just how far the war hawks in Washington have gone, trashing the Constitution and Bill of Rights in the process.
In the end, one can see that this war on terror is like a vicious cycle. Terrorist activities are on the rise across the globe, more and more of the world’s disenfranchised young people are being converted because the fundamentalists and radicals promise them a better tomorrow.
America’s trashing of its own principles in pursuance of oil and other natural resources under the guise of international peace and security has created a retaliation force by those who want to resist such conquest.
Do I condone terrorism?
Definitely not, but I believe that people outside America have a right to protect themselves against predatory states who use their military might and wealth to impose their value systems and practices on them.
The American forefathers spoke of “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
These elements cannot be the sole preserve of Americans in a world of many.
