IN a now all-too-familiar tale between recording companies and signed artistes, Diamond Studios and young sungura star, Romeo Gasa were recently caught in a wrangle.
It was alleged that Diamond Studio boss, Steady Munyanyi confiscated Gasa’s instruments thereby grounding the youngster and his band, Extra Valembe.
However, Gasa who is promoting his fourth album Pin Code watered down the reports.
“I have always been a farmer and this obviously is the season so I am busy preparing my fields, but l am still going out to play with my band for functions and scheduled gigs,” said Gasa.
Pressed about the wrangle, the young maestro said he was not yet able to ‘talk freely’ about the issue as it was yet to be rectified.
“It was a misunderstanding that l am hoping will clear soon otherwise l have not abandoned my music,” Gasa said.
Although the artiste refused to provide further details about the wrangle, he hinted that he had recently purchased new equipment for his band and was now polishing his upcoming DVD.
Gasa said the DVD would feature the seven tracks from his October release, PIN Code, and an additional two tracks from his previous album Simbi Hombe.
The young artiste said the recent disagreement with his recording label is just one among many in the life of a performer.
He was first disqualified after clinching the prize at the annual Chibuku Road to Fame after some of his young brothers who were part of the band were discovered to be under the competition qualification age of 18.
He has been cut off stage in the middle of a performance at a Gala in Gokwe and has been accused of being a Macheso copy-cat due to his ability to play the bass guitar with equal expertise to the sungura King at such a young age.
“Zvinowanikwa mukukura muindustry and I know this phase will soon pass,” Gasa said.
