Sky is the limit for Ammara

Published on

WITH the death of legendary musician Andy Brown, a lot about his life and career, hitherto unknown, came out.
The media was awash with painful stories about his life.
Some focused on the sad story of his growing up in poverty and without knowing of his father, others talked about the numerous women in his life, his children and his indisputable prowess in music.
There were questions about who was to carry on with Andy’s legacy.
His widow, Nadine Brown, was said to be a musician of some sort while he had already introduced his daughter Ammara into the music world.
Sadly, it appeared that chaos would reign supreme in the empire ‘Muzukuru’ had created.
In the period after his departure to the yonder world, tragedy dogged his family.
In less than a year of his death, two of his daughters, Chiedza and Sahla, died.
However, instead of tragedy breaking Ammara, it spurred her on — music became her comfort zone.
Though the talented guitarist and composer has been gone for six years, Ammara has kept his legacy going and the pint-sized songstress has also carved a niche for herself.
She has become a musician of note in her own right.
Her star continues to shine with each song she releases.
One of the country’s top female musicians, Ammara has shown that only the sky is the limit for her.
To prove her mettle, she is set to perform at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) where she will be the main act.
Dubbed ‘Ammartia Ignite Concert’, the show will feature Nigerian superstar Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade, better known as Mr Eazi, whom she has collaborated with in her latest single ‘Svoto’.
Through a video released on Ammara‘s official facebook page, Mr Eazi has already confirmed his attendance.
Mr Eazi’s music largely fits into the category of Afrobeats and he has gained international recognition through songs such as ‘Skin tight’, ‘Pour me water’ and ‘Leg over’.
Whether the energetic dancer and talented singer will be able to fill up HICC is a question for another day, but what must be considered is that Ammara has proven to be a dedicated and determined artiste who gives her all to the craft.
“It is such an honour to share the stage with my good friend the extremely talented Mr Eazi again at # AmmartiaIgnite on 28 Sep at HICC (sic),” said the musician on her facebook page.
While a lot might be said about the musician, one cannot dispute that she is a talented musician who has not ridden on her father’s fame but has to give the world the best of her.
Unlike other off-spring of musicians who have heavily depended on the works of their fathers, Ammara has, by and large, delivered her own compositions.
But her father remains her biggest inspiration.
“Daddy planted the music seed. The inspiration. He sparked the flame that would grow to know and call passion (sic),” she said.
The ‘Akiliz’ hitmaker has since announced plans to tour southern Africa, visiting South Africa, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, Lesotho and Namibia.
Through her works which have been featured on channels such as Trace she has also become popular beyond the country’s borders.
Her contribution in the music industry has seen her being the first woman in Zimbabwe to be selected to represent the country in the Coke Studio.
And the appearance has opened avenues for her which have been a massive boost to her career.
Apart from being the female musician of the moment, Ammara has done collaborations with various artistes, adding significant value to her projects.
Some of her collaborations that have been a huge success include songs like ‘Kure Kure’ that featured man-of-the-moment Jah Prayzah, ‘Mukoko’ with Titan and ‘Bhachura’ featuring ExQ.
Ammara’s forte is stage performance.
Her performances are compelling and exciting, with well-choreographed dances and videos earning her many fans.
Other popular songs by Ammara include ‘Night of the Queen’, ‘More Sugar Daddy’, ‘Crucify me’, ‘Havarare’ and ‘Ndichakusuwa’.
Fellow artistes to grace the ‘Ammartia Ignite’ show include the young and talented Tamy Moyo, Takura Life and veteran rapper ExQ.
