The Constitution and the founding values of our nation

Published on

A MOST important section in the Zimbabwean Constitution that must be revised and rewritten in an honest and forthright manner is the section on the Founding Values and Principles of our nation.
This is Section Three contained in Chapter One under Founding Provisions.
The Section avoids telling the truth about the real demonstrable and tangible source of the values upon which Zimbabwe as it is known today throughout the world is founded or was founded. The liberation struggle is the true source of the values upon which Zimbabwe as a nation is founded or was founded.
These are the values espoused in our National Anthem.
They are symbolised in our National Flag.
They are captured in the Zimbabwe Coat of Arms.
As our Nation Anthem clearly says the founding or birth of Zimbabwe as it is known today throughout the world was not a walk in the park.
A lot of blood was shed on the battlefield to liberate this country and lay the foundation upon which Zimbabwe as a nation was to be born.
This is the clear and unambiguous message that we as Zimbabweans send to our present and future generations and all peoples of the world when we sing our National Anthem and invoke the symbolic significance of our National Flag saying: “Simudzai mureza wedu we Zimbabwe; “Yakazvarwa nemoto weChimurenga; Neropa zhinji remagamba.”
It is because of the supremacy of the liberation struggle as the highest expression and true source of the unconditional values and principles of sacrifice, patriotism and love for our land that we as Zimbabweans today call upon ourselves to mobilise and galvanise ourselves to defend this country and all its wealth with all our might and never let it fall again into the hands of our enemies and colonisers when we sing our National Anthem saying: “Ngaikomborerwe nyika yeZimbabwe.
“Tiidzivirire kumhandu dzose.”
The Zimbabwe National Anthem tells us in clear and straightforward language who the owners of Zimbabwe are when we sing: “Mwari ropafadzai nyika yeZimbabwe; Nyika yamadzitateguru edu tose; Kubva Zambezi kusvika Limpopo; Ngaikomborerwe nyika yeZimbabwe.”
Every verse of our National Anthem implies and invokes Mwari as the Supreme Ancestor and Tateguru of Zimbabweans who blessed them with the endowments that make Zimbabwe the envy of the whole world including imperialists, the most vicious and cruel among them being America, Europe and Britain.
These endowments bestowed upon Zimbabweans by Mwari as their Supreme Ancestor and Tateguru are clearly mentioned in the Zimbabwe National Anthem which asks Mwari to bless and protect Zimbabwe from falling into the hands of our enemies when we sing: “Tarisai Zimbabwe nyika yakashongedzwa; Namakomo nehova, zvinoyevedza; Mvura ngainaye, minda ipe mbesa; Vashandi vatuswe, ruzhinji rugutswe; Ngaikomborerwe nyika yeZimbabwe.”
The values that are contained in the Zimbabwe National Anthem, Zimbabwe National Flag and Zimbabwe Coat of Arms come from the Zimbabwe liberation struggle.
These are tangible values, not hollow abstract slogans such as rule of law, good governance, inherent human dignity, and fundamental human rights and freedoms borrowed by the so-called learned lawyers from the enemies of Zimbabwe and inserted into our Constitution to mislead the present and future generations of Zimbabwe and the world as the founding values of our nation.
Another tangible expression and source of values that speak loud and clear to the present and future generations are the illustrious sons and daughters of the land who dedicated their lives to lay the foundations upon which Zimbabwe as a nation was born.
These are laid to rest at the Zimbabwe National Heroes Acre.
The other concrete examples are the mass graves and mine shafts that are still being discovered all around Zimbabwe where the bodies of men, women and children who lost their lives for the liberation and rebirth of this land lie together, with their souls still clamouring for cleansing into the deaf ears of our nation, while we as a nation enjoy the fruits of their sacrifices with impunity and shun them as the real foundation upon which our nation was born.
Meanwhile, some of our academics, lawyers and intellectuals collude with the enemies of Zimbabwe in a war of empty slogans such as rule of law, democracy, fundamental human freedoms, and equality of all human beings, all in a bid to deny and betray the liberation struggle as the true historical source and basis upon which Zimbabwe as a nation today is founded.
The ZANU PF government must abide by the mandate given to it by the people during the elections of July 31 2013 and align the Constitution with the principles and values of the liberation struggle; and ensure that Zimbabwe shall never be a colony again.
