THE National Rugby League (NRL) is still courting potential sponsors, but this will not affect resumption of the league set for April 26.
Lion Lager were the previous sponsors.
The NRL said it was still engaged in talks with prospective sponsors.
“At the moment there is no sponsor yet, but we are still in talks with the past sponsors,” said chairman of the league, Nody Kanyangarara.
“We are also speaking to other sponsors.
“The issue of sponsorship was delaying the resumption of the league, but we decided to start without a sponsor.
“If we secure sponsorship, they will come in during the course of the season.”
The marriage with Lion Lager led to a marked improvement of the fortunes of the teams and players.
Clubs benefited from the prize money and training kits while the outstanding players were awarded prizes for their effort.
Nine teams will battle it out in the NRL.
Mutare Sports Club are the new kid on the block.
Zvishavane Bulls, Harare Sports Club, Matabeleland Busters, Old Hararians, Old Miltonians, Old Georgians, Gweru Sports Club and Western Panthers are the teams playing in the unbranded league.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Sevens rugby team, the Cheetahs are back home from a hunting expedition in Hong Kong.
The hunters did not bring home the trophy.
They failed to secure a core member status forcing them back to the drawing board.
Being a core member in the Sevens would have enabled Zimbabwe to play more matches and join other rugby power houses in the league.
At the Hong Kong sevens, Zimbabwe beat Barbados (49-5), Chile (19-14) and Russia (14-5) before meeting Italy in the quarter finals.
The match was deadlocked at 12 apiece before a sudden death heartbreak.
