TM Challenge Cup …DeMbare, Bosso in ‘Battle of Zimbabwe IV’

ALL roads lead to the giant National Sports Stadium tomorrow (Saturday) where Dynamos and Highlanders face-off in the ‘Battle of Zimbabwe IV’ in the TM Pick n Pay Big Brands Bonanza Promotion Challenge match. The two teams have met three times this year with Dynamos winning all the three matches. First was in the Bob 90 Super Cup where the Harare giants won 2-0.
In the league fixtures, Dynamos won 1-0 at NSS and at Barbourfields with the same scoreline. However, violence erupted after the Dynamos victory in Bulawayo and one Bosso fan died while several others were injured.
Away from the violence characterising the matches at Barbourfields, Sunday’s match presents another chance for Highlanders to avenge the three defeats they have suffered at the hands of perennial rivals Dynamos.
Stakes are high in the match with pride and prize money to play for. The winner takes US$60 000 while the runner-up walks away US$50 000 richer.
The match though will be more about pride and seeking to maintain records. Dynamos play to maintain their unbeaten run dating back to 2006 when Bosso last beat the Glamour Boys.
Kelvin Kaindu’s best result against the Harare giants is a draw.
With each match, the Bosso gaffer hopes to brew a shocker by defeating the Harare giants.
With a number of acquisitions during the mid-season transfer window, Bosso are an improved outfit that may turn the tables.
The Bulawayo giants lost the services of Milton Ncube, Kudakwashe Mahachi and Khumbulani Banda who are now plying their trade in South Africa.
Veteran striker Njabulo Ncube and midfielder Pascal Manhanga rejoined the Bulawayo giants during the mid-season transfer window.
The Highlanders technical bench may entrust the number one position to Munyaradzi Diya while the central defence role will be under the command of veteran defender Innocent Mapuranga who is getting better with age partnered by Dumisani Ndlovu.
Eric Mudzingwa and Bruce Kangwa are likely to command the right and left back positions.
Simon Munava may command the midfield with support probably from Manhanga and Joel ‘Josta’ Ngodzo.
Ozias Zibande and Gabriel Nyoni are the other strikers Kaindu may use for the day.
Kaindu’s opposite number Kalisto Pasuwa also needs to grab all the silverware on offer. The Glamour Boys have so far grabbed the Bob 90 Super Cup and are in the final of the inaugural One Wallet Cup.
Dynamos missed out on the Chibuku Super Cup after a 1-0 loss to Black Rhinos.
With a guarantee of a hefty pay cheque that will ease the financial burden at Dynamos, the technical team will throw everything possible to grab the US$60 000.
Last Sunday, Dynamos were in terrific form that saw them beat How Mine 2-0 in the One Wallet Cup in Zvishavane’s Mandava Stadium.
Goals by Blessing Moyo and Washington Pakamisa were enough to see them through to the final where they clash against Triangle who beat Chicken Inn 5-3 on penalties.
It was one of the stunning performances by Dynamos this season. The spectacular goal by Moyo put the icing on the cake after a day of football brilliance.
The match can be summed up as a final before the final as both teams were in attacking mode from the first to the final whistle.
Tafadzwa Rusike was enjoying his game on the left flank while Ronald Chitiyo did the damage on the right. Pasuwa may maintain the winning team or opt for a few changes.
Artwell Mukandi was between the sticks and no doubt the former Monomotapa goalie will guard the posts while the combination of Themba Ndlovu and Augustine Mbara will be entrusted in the central defence.
Former Underhill defender Sydney Linyama is also fit and can be another defence option while Moyo who is gaining confidence with each game may get the right back role.
The injury of Ocean Mushure has created a vacancy in the left back position and Thomas Magorimbo might fill the gap.
In the middle of the park, Pasuwa may opt for two holding midfielders Stephen Alimenda and Devon Chafa who is slowly getting his footing.
Chitiyo and Rusike will be the attacking midfielders. Pasuwa may also opt to congest the middle of the park and employ the services of Walter Mukanga to employ a 4-5-1 formation.
Washington Pakamisa who has shown his ability to hold onto the ball may be used as a lone striker supported by the two pint-sized midfielders Rusike and Chitiyo.
Sunday is a decisive day for Dembare and Highlanders who need to re-write history on the day.
