EDITOR — PLEASE allow me to thank the Government for the timely intervention in the transport sector. This move will help ease the pressure on the already burdened commuter.
The public had become objects of abuse by the rowdy and unruly commuter omnibus operators. Unsuspecting commuters were subjected to abuse through ridiculous fares which were as high as $5 for distances previously charged one dollar.
For many of us who earn little, it was increasingly becoming difficult to go to work and fend for our families because our hard-earned income was now being consumed by transport costs alone.
I would like to thank bus operators such as ZUPCO, TripTrans, InterAfrica, Bhora Mberi and Kurai Coaches, among others, for being of true service at this point in time.
I would like to urge Government to continue with this noble move by increasing the number of buses for all the routes and going a step further by ensuring trains are also capacitated to do the same.
While the trains are moving, they are in a dilapidated state and must be invested in for the public to utilise them.
These modes of transport were used before and there is no reason we should allow them to fold when they are indeed serving the dire needs of the people.
The events in recent weeks have shown how important it is to support institutions that have the people at heart.

Chitungwiza.
