White racism in America: No end in sight

Published on

THE United States of America is burning.
Cars and buildings are burning and there are several demonstrations across the US against white racism in that ‘democratic country’.
A black youth called Michael Brown was shot by a white police officer named Darren Wilson on August 9 2014, in a town called Ferguson in the state of Missouri, United States of America.
Because members of the public, especially the black community thought Michael Brown had been killed for no good reason since he was unarmed, riots ensued.
On August 20 a grand jury was constituted to hear the case regarding Michael Brown’s demise.
The grand jury was made up of nine whites and three blacks.
This week the grand jury announced that Darren Wilson, the police officer, had no case to answer and this sparked the wild demonstrations and riots in parts of the United States of America.
Protesters are saying white racists in America think black lives are cheap.
In this article we would like once again to look at white racism in America, briefly tracing its origins from slavery to the present riots in the United States.
We also want to show that while the United States President Barack Obama claims to be the strongest man on earth, in reality, in his own backyard he is a mere ‘paper tiger’ who has no power over a mere police officer since for all intents and purposes the United States is a ‘defacto’ police state.
The diabolic enslavement of millions of Africans by whites from Europe who took them away from Africa to the United States where for over three centuries the black race was reduced to a downtrodden, oppressed race as good as cattle or donkeys is believed by many to be the root cause of racism in the United States of America and elsewhere.
When slavery was finally abolished, blacks and whites were not all of a sudden made equals.
For starters, the centuries of slavery made sure the black man had a deeply embedded ‘colonial or slave mentality’ which the white man always used to his advantage.
Furthermore, the white man did not stop there.
He went on after abolishing slavery to put a lot more barriers in the way of the black man.
While for example, the white governments passed the Civil Rights Act of 1866, which gave a wide range of civil rights to all United States citizens including blacks, “sanctioned acts of subjugation of blacks continued to bar them from due civil rights.
“In the 1970s violent white supremacist came to power via paramilitary groups such as the red shirts and white league and imposed what were termed ‘Jim Crow Laws’.
“The Jim Crow Laws were state and Local Laws enacted and enforced between 1876 and 1965.
“They mandated separate status for black Americans.
“Some of the laws required that public schools, public places and public transport like trains and buses leave separate facilities for whites and blacks.”
They were very much like the Apartheid laws in South Africa and the Land Tenure Act in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe).
The racial discrimination of blacks in the United States of America continued unabated from the above quoted times to the present day.
A brief look at some reports and statistics will clearly show what we mean.
If we look at wealth in the United States as an example, “massive racial differentials in account of wealth remain in the United States: between whites and African-Americans the gap is a factor of 20.”
In the field of health care things are quite bad.
“There are major racial differences in access to healthcare and in the quality of health care provided.
“A study published estimated that over 886 000 black deaths could have been prevented from 1991 to 2000 if African Americans had received the same care as whites.”
President Obama has tried to do something in the health care field for blacks with ‘Obamacare’, but white American racists don’t want to have anything to do with it.
The greatest evil of white racism in America is to be found in the justice system.
“Racial disparities have been noted in all levels of the United States justice system.
“While African Americans comprise 13 percent of the United States population and 14 percent of monthly drug users they are 37 percent of the people arrested for drug offences as well as 56 percent of the people in state prisons.
“The United States sentencing commission reported in March 2010, that in the federal system black offenders received sentences that are 10 percent longer than white offenders for the same crimes.
“A July 2009 report by the Sentencing Project found that two thirds of the people in the United States with life sentences are black.”
And the reasons why people are rioting over the release of Darren Wilson who killed Michael Brown is that if Darren Wilson were a black officer and Michael Brown white there was no doubt in every protester’s mind that not only was Darren Wilson going to be sent to jail, but that he was going to get a very long sentence or even life imprisonment.
Yes, they are a protesting that Darren Wilson deserved to be sent to jail.
The question that then comes to the fore is: why is the United States President Obama not taking action on white policemen killing blacks.
The other day, a 12-year-old black child who had an ordinary toy gun was shot and killed by a white police officer in Oklahoma.
The answer to the above question is a simple.
When it comes to the police, a United States President is a ‘paper tiger’.
There is nothing he can do.
His powers against a policeman in America are no different from that of an ordinary man in the street.
America is a police state.
This is why President Obama right now is only pleading with police not to use excessive force.
Don’t forget in the early part of his presidency, President Obama was challenged by a low level ordinary police officer on the beat over a certain matter and was told to back off.
Obama almost apologised to a useless policeman on the beat.
If you want to see a good example of a dysfunctional democracy, do not look any further than the United States.
Here is a president elected by the entire United States being told to get lost by a mere police sergeant!
And what is annoying from a Third World point of view is if the killing of blacks in the United States by white policemen was happening in some country in the Middle East, or elsewhere, the United States President would send planes to bomb that country’s ‘dictator’ for ‘killing his own people’.
Now the big question is why is the killing of innocent blacks in America by the police not considered the ‘killing of their own people’ by the United States government?
Why?
