Whose interests do African journalists in Zimbabwe serve? …lessons from The American Directory of Certified Uncle Toms

WHEN the axe came into the forest, the trees said, “The handle is one of us.”
“No man escapes when freedom fails. The best rot in filthy jails. And for those who cry ‘Appease! Appease!’ They will die by those they tried to please.”
“Those who forget history are bound to repeat it.”
The media is an important instrument for nation building. It plays a key role in the economic and socio-political progress of every nation. It helps produce national cohesion and build a national vision, without which no nation has ever progressed or developed.
It is for this reason that media in the so-called developed nations is put in the hands of organisations, institutions and companies whose people believe strongly in the ideals of their nations and have a thorough understanding of their nations’ socio-economic and political goals and are committed to play their meaningful role in the development processes of their nations.
This is the very opposite of media practice in Zimbabwe today whose focus is on what is called “opening up the airwaves.” This includes putting the media into the hands of people who may use it to destroy the nation as long as they are Zimbabweans and have the skills and means to run media business in the country.
But ancient wisdom in this regard tells us that “when the axe came into the forest, the trees said, “The handle is one of us.” That is how we perished at Chimoio at the hands of our own Nyathi. Ancient wisdom also tells us that, “Those who forget history are bound to repeat it.”
The American Directory of Certified Uncle Toms has further lessons for us on the dangers of entrusting the destiny of our nation indiscriminately in the hands of anyone including our own who may be used to destroy us all in the name of what Section 61 of the Zimbabwean Constitution calls Freedom of expression and freedom of the media. What it says about Blacks in America also applies to intellectuals, journalists and politicians in Zimbabwe who sell out their people and nation. Let’s read on and be wise:
“There is no more detestable a trait bred into the Black slave in America than that which compels him to sell out his own Black people. Throughout the ages, the Black race has encountered among its own, a species of racial traitor ever willing to aid and abet the universal cause of white supremacy.
“From the Africans who assisted the European slave traders, to the plantation house niggers who dutifully protected their masters’ racist regime, Blacks could be counted among those who aided in the nearly five-century European race war of annihilation now known as the Black Holocaust.
“The Indian nation in the West suffered under the weight of its own traitors. Some among them traded with the European marauders, formed alliances with them, and aided in the massacre of millions of their own people.
“In the midst of the devastation, the Black man was kidnapped from his African home to build a nation for whites atop the wreckage of a once-glorious Red civilisation. The labour of Black men, women, and children was forcibly compelled without compensation, yet their sweat and blood made America the most powerful and wealthiest nation in world history.
“The white man’s physical war against these darker-skinned races was decisive, the destruction complete, some nonwhites reduced to ashes, others to total dependency, deprived of any form of freedom, justice, or equality.
“The psychological war, however, still rages on, from a sycophantic and worshipful submission to the white oppressor, to the devout and unalterable determination to break the chains of racial tyranny and obtain true Black freedom and independence at any cost.
“It is the Black sycophants who are the most prized by the oppressor. It is the freedom seekers who present a lethal threat to his continued dominance and control.
“In the darkest days of slavery, these prized black agents betrayed slave revolts, tracked escapees, aided in the sale of the enslaved, counselled devotion to their open enemies, and defended their captors with their lives.
“Later generations of them fought in the white man’s wars, begged for acceptance into his institutions, worshipped his white deities, and otherwise served him with affection.
“Within the last few decades, some have achieved subordinate positions among their conquerors in the realm of politics, media, business, and the professions, commensurate with their allegiance and commitment to white rule.
“These Black functionaries who moved among their masters at their masters’ beck and call came to be known as Uncle Toms, named after a character in a popular nineteenth-century anti-slavery novel who exhibited a reassuring acquiescence to his white slave-masters.
“Uncle Tom was a term assigned both in anger and in admiration to an ever-present class of Black Judases, who existed in a protected zone beyond the reach of the Black masses whose interests they so often and dutifully betrayed. Today Uncle Tom continues to haunt Black America” and the Black Race.
“The masses of Blacks in America seeth at these acts of bitter racial betrayal and privately condemn the perpetrators to an eternal and fiery hell.
“They watch this favoured and protected class of Negro Judases reap abundant rewards and public adoration as encouragement for even greater treason against their own, without having to fear Black retribution or account for their seditious behaviour.
“In his treason, the Uncle Tom’s nefarious role in government, education, entertainment, leadership, religion, media, and American culture in general, is backed by the immense power of the ruling white power structure and from the large payments dispensed to them from the bottomless black budget of white supremacy. Uncle Tom is in the house.” Zimbabweans beware!
