Let’s embrace call to bust sanctions

Published on

EDITOR — THE October 25 anti-sanctions call is very important and should remain a special day on our calendar.

It exposes the US and its agents for its lies. There is nothing ‘‘…restrictive or targeted measures…’’ about these murderous sanctions that have destroyed lives.

The anti-sanctions call is a slap in the face for the MDC Alliance, which called for the sanctions.

Arguing that there are no sanctions in Zimbabwe and regarding everyone who has been calling for removal of sanctions as dull is akin to witchcraft, which dovetails with the opposition’s mantra of kudira jecha.

Therefore, the anti-sanctions call opens a new chapter whose reading is that Zimbabwe is ready to engage with the rest of the world but will not suffer bullies.

The sanctions are not only affecting the people of Zimbabwe but the whole of Southern Africa. They have crippled Zimbabwe and driven many to foreign countries — Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, the UK, the US and Australia, among others, in search of greener pastures.

They have also affected a number of companies in Zimbabwe, which can’t do business with other companies within the region.

Maybe it is time we also hit back. There are many American and British companies operating in the country, it is also time we slap sanctions on them.

They cannot continue to enjoy the benefits of the country while they frustrate us at every turn in their countries.

Zimbabwe is open for business, ready to deal with any nation that respects our sovereignty and does not treat us like mere children.

We will not be bullied and suffer in silence because ‘big brothers’ America and Britain desire it so.

It is a good thing that SADC has come to support Zimbabwe.

United we stand, divided we fall!

Let’s embrace the Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Day!
