FIFTEEN thousand kilogrammes of meat is expected to be devoured at the Castle Lager National Braai Day slated for this weekend at Old Hararians Sports Club in Harare.
These huge volumes will be consumed, not just for fun but also as an effort to give back to the less privileged.
The meat and music fiesta will run under the theme ‘Ultimate Braai – Together Serving Others’.
Speaking at a press a conference recently, Delta’s general manager, Munyaradzi Nyandoro, said last year’s beneficiaries, Mpilo and Harare hospitals, would again benefit from proceeds from the braai this year .
“For every 1kg of meat consumed, we will give a donation of an equal amount to our two referral hospitals, Mpilo and Harare,” he said.
Last year, Delta also donated more than 12 000 kg of meat to Mpilo and Harare hospitals as an early Christmas cheer for patients.
The event is part of the beverages manufacturer’s social responsibility.
October 28 has now been set aside as the National Braai Day, organised for the sole purpose of giving to charity.
Dubbed the Castle Lager National Braai Day, the event attracted thousands of revellers at its inception last year, where
12 680 kg of meat were consumed.
Delta marketing manager Patricia Murambinda said there would also be a lot of drinks at the event.
“We hope to break the Guinness Book of Records of a 130m-bar, thus we want to construct the longest bar ever,” she said.
“We want to showcase the longest bar of up to 150m in the country and the biggest crowd to attend a single braai event.”
Castle Lager National Braai Day is also a celebration of local talent as it will feature a number of Djs and musicians.
Revellers will get to enjoy music from the Djs delivered through various techniques such as scratching, cutting, back-spinning, phasing and beat juggling.
As a form of art, dee jaying has complemented live performances by musicians, enriching the experience of revellers.
Record spinners at the food and drink bonanza will include the popular Judgement Yard, Dj Elroy, Dj Stavo and Dj Chucknosis.
Musicians to perform at the event were chosen by revellers through various social media networks.
The Castle Lager National Braai provides a platform for musicians to market themselves. It is through performing live in front of huge crowds that an artiste attracts more fans, contracts and improves his performance.
Local musicians who include rising Uzumba-born Andy Muridzo and celebrated man of the moment Jah Prayzah, dancehall godfather Winky D, songstress Ammara Brown and Freeman are billed to perform at the event.
