Concerned about fuel leak in Harare

Published on

EDITOR — ZIMBABWEANS have received unofficial information through various media about a fuel leak in Harare.
As a concerned citizen, allow me to make enquiries:
l Who initially discovered the fuel leak? When? How? Has this been verified and confirmed technically?
l What is the nature of the fuel leak?
l How is the problem to be located as they may end up digging all over the city?
l Total Zimbabwe has claimed that the fuel leak may not have occurred from their service station and that it’s actually the CMED Depot. What proof do you have that the leak is at a specific position?
l May EMA and ZERA give constant official updates on their websites and through electronic and print media.
l What is the progress to date in identifying the challenge and resolving the same?
l Do we have enough local technical capacity (human and equipment) to detect and deal with the challenge?
l Has ZERA been checking the service station(s) for compliance? If yes, are the tests adequate?
l Do we have capacity to react to disasters should this develop into one or should we experience disaster elsewhere?
l Should ZERA and EMA not be at the forefront in dealing with the matter and updating the public while the police limit themselves to public safety and investigations?
l What precautions are being taken to ensure there are no casualties should the leak blow up? What are the current quarantine measures that have been implemented to ensure that no harm occurs in the meantime?
l Is there any way citizens can assist?

Godfrey Mukokeri,
Harare
