Let’s consolidate farming gains made last season

Published on

EDITOR- I FOLLOWED with sadness a report by ZBC TV This Morning that preparations for the 2014-15 farming have commenced at a snail’s pace due to a number of reasons.
It was disheartening to note that the preparations have been hampered by obsolete equipment, lack of funds, inputs among other challenges.
While it is common knowledge that the economy has not been performing well, there is need for continued support to the farmers who have been operating under these brutal economic conditions.
After the farmers’ stellar performance in the previous farming season, the Clarion call should be the continued support this season so that we take another step forward.
That we need to consolidate these is a matter that every concerned citizen of Zimbabwe should be seized with.
The Meteorological Department has forecasted normal to above normal rainfall this season and this entails that we take advantage of the good fortunes from Above to produce more and plenty for the country.
But as things stand, this is not the best way to harness the potential of yet another bumper harvest.
There should be activity on the farms but there is none if the ZBC TV This Morning report is anything to go by.
We need collective efforts to ensure that we help the farmers in the best possible way to achieve the much needed bumper harvest.
There are many benefits to be accrued from achieving the bumper harvest.
Chief among them is negation of NGOs who have been pursuing the regime change agenda through the so-called food aid.
Lets keep our eyes on the ball as a nation and help the farmers.

Concerned, Ve Gutu.
