Mugabe an African Icon

EDITOR — There is a big tragedy facing black people in Africa and in the world I suppose. Here is the story. We are told to hate our heroes and before we even listen to them we are already toeing that line.
I have a story to tell.
Dear Editor, I am a proud Zimbabwean citizen and I must admit that before his presentation at the African Union Summit in Ethiopia last week, I was a fierce critic of President Robert Mugabe but I now remorsefully admit that I am now one of his ardent followers.
The truth which many, including myself, have failed to take to heart is that President Mugabe is truly an African icon whose great works and life should be embraced by all.
The man is a gift to the downtrodden masses of the world.
His speech in Addis Ababa should rank among the most riveting addresses ever.
It was the tonic people from the so-called developing world should use as the springboard to their upliftment both mentally and economically.
President Mugabe is steering the African agenda in the right direction.
Where we need new thinking in order for us to fend off the intrusive Western hand, President Mugabe is there to mentor us.
Where we need guidance and inspiration, we have President Mugabe to provide that.
To my fellow colleagues who are still on the anti-Mugabe crusade, I say it’s not too late to join the majority.
