Not impressed by beauty pageant

Published on

EDITOR – OVER the past two weeks, I have been gasping in awe at a parade of foolery masquerading as the elimination rounds for the Miss World Zimbabwe edition.
I am still trying to grasp the direction this pageant is taking after more than four episodes on ZBC TV and failed to classify it as taking a traditional thrust while the pageant is far from competing on the international fora.
This time around, the so-called models strut out their stuff on the dance floor in a manner that does not reflect any positive attributes about the Zimbabwean culture.
I am not an expert on beauty pageants, but the charade I have been subjected to by the national broadcaster will throw the reputation of Zimbabwe into disrepute.
For starters, the models lack deportment, etiquette, and grooming.
Some of the scenes that have been broadcast are reminiscent of the Miss Rural beauty pageant which took the country by storm a few years ago.
Maybe the template of how to run a beauty pageant has changed, but I feel the least the organisers of the event could have done was to consult veteran beauty pageant judges like Kiki Divaris or former beauty queens to help the girls through their paces.

Just an observation
