EDITOR – I must say the recent accident that claimed 10 lives along Seke Road left me really disturbed.
We have always cautioned commuter omnibus drivers to drive safely because life is so precious, but it seems the calls have been falling on deaf ears.
All the eye witnesses stuck to one statement that the driver was ‘speeding’.
In fact it is said the driver of the commuter omnibus who also died had a known record of speeding.
If people knew this and never did anything about it, then at times commuters need to think twice.
Many commuters at times just sit and keep quiet even if the driver is speeding. This must stop forthwith.
Let us caution these drivers, because one day, things might go extremely wrong like what happened this week.
As it is, it is sad that a family out there has lost a father, mother, child, uncle, aunt, grandfather or grandmother just because of a reckless commuter omnibus driver.
A colleague was suggesting that the Government must now seriously consider constructing a railway line from Harare to Chitungwiza.
In his words he said, “If Rhodes managed to build a railway line, then what can stop us from constructing just a 40-kilometre railway line from Harare to Chitungiwa?”
Seke Road has claimed many lives.
It’s time for drastic measures.
Life is just too precious.
