All roads lead to Bindura Book Fair

Published on

BINDURA Book Fair executive director Tendai Moyo, has toyed with the idea of the inclusion of the kindergarten on this year’s Education and Information Expo being held in Bindura this weekend. The Expo is being held under the theme ‘Closing the skills gap, embracing the potential of Zimbabwean youth’. Students, youths, educators, employees, and other progressive individuals are also expected to attend. Part of the programme will include career clinics, interactive workshops and seminars, which will be deliberated on by motivational speakers and experts drawn from various backgrounds and fields of study. Moyo said this year’s inclusion of children at their tender ages was out of the realisation that they had been religiously attending previous book fairs only to seek fun and entertainment from the jumping castles. This, he said, was caused by the lack of recreational facilities for schoolchildren. To this end, he said, the organisation would soon embark on proposed programmes for children, which include Creative Visual Arts, Junior Photographing, Journalism and Music. “Since we have discovered their presence to be forthcoming, we have this year decided to include them in this year’s programme so that they benefit from our various programmes on offer specifically for children.” Moyo said this was in line the Expo’s thrust to instill knowledge in young people and the entire community. He said the book fair was a platform for individuals to scout for talent while exploring various opportunities. “Education is very important towards the socioeconomic development of the province and the nation at large,” he said. Moyo said they were yet to receive attendance confirmation from some of the invited guests who are expected to receive awards at the book fair. Among those to be honoured for their outstanding performances in the province are Vice President Joice Mujuru, music icon Oliver Mtukudzi, Zimbabwe Republic Police Commissioner- General Augustine Chihuri and the late Professor Solomon Mutswairo. Moyo said the event was expected to be fruitful since all renowned organisations had registered and confirmed their attendance. They include the Securities Commission of Zimbabwe, the National Art Gallery of Zimbabwe, Longman Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Publishing House, Ministry of Media, Information and Publicity, Zimbabwe Stock Exchange and Environmental Management Agency. Live music, drum majorettes, traditional dances, pony horse riding, jumping castles, braai and snacks will also be part of the day’s recipe manual. Bindura Book Fair, which was born four years ago, will next month start operating on a full-time basis and as a fully fledged organisation.
