Harare Derby: Part Two…a question of who wants it most

PREMEIRSHIP giants Dynamos and CAPS United will renew their rivalry when they lock horns in the Harare Derby at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday in a match where stars Denver Mukamba and Hardlife Zvirekwi will be the centre of attraction.
Dynamos and CAPS United affair always brings anxiety, never mind the two teams’ positions on the log.
The affair is spiced with mixed reactions and debate between the two sets of supporters.
Mukamba has thrust himself into the spotlight due to his seemingly never ending antics while Zvirekwi will play in the high profile encounter following his career-threatening injury at the beginning of the year.
The talented but controversial Mukamba, who has featured for the Green Machine, has since returned to his boyhood club and capped his ‘debut’ with a fine performance in DeMbare’s narrow 1-nil victory over ZPC Kariba on Sunday.
Mukamba had been on loan to CAPS United during the off season as part of his rehabilitation programme but he did not take long to fall out of favour with the club hierarchy due to truancy.
His misdemeanors strained relations with Lloyd Mutasa, culminating in a loan deal with bitter rivals CAPS United.
On Sunday, the midfielder will be in the famous blue and white jersey as the Harare giants face-off.
The spotlight will once again fall on Mukamba as fans of the domestic game remain anxious to see whether he will be able to reproduce the magic that made him a household name.
The controversial midfielder was in dazzling form on Sunday and is expected to carry his form into the Harare derby on Sunday.
Although the championship is out of reach for Dynamos, with CAPS United still having a mathematical chance, pride remains the fundamental issue at stake whenever the two sides clash.
CAPS United captain Zvirekwi has been slowly integrating himself into the team following the amputation of his left hand and played a blinder as his early strike sank Black Rhinos in an entertaining Castle Lager Premier Soccer League encounter at Rufaro Stadium a fortnight ago.
It was the first goal of the season for Zvirekwi, who missed the first half of the season as he was recovering from an injury sustained in career-threatening car crash that cost him his left hand.
Clearly enjoying playing in the right attack, Zvirekwi caused all sorts of problems for the opposition as he continued his fairytale return.
Zvirekwi only needed three minutes to get on to the score sheet and that was the goal that would settle the encounter to ensure the Green Machine’s unbeaten start to the second-half of the season remains intact.
The star player always saves his best for matches against DeMbare and Sunday’s encounter will present another opportunity for him to prove his mettle.
Rising star Brian Muzondiwa has been central to CAPS United with his devilish crosses which cause serious problems for opponents.
He is expected to once again rise to the occasion as he makes a strong case for the Warriors.
Muzondiwa provided the killer pass to Mukamba that sealed the first league Harare derby of the season.
Zvirekwi has been great ever since he began his rehabilitation soon after the accident, and has done so much in motivating the team.
CAPS United have drawn four times and won once since the second half of the season began before yesterday’s match 23 (Thursday).
Dynamos, on the other hand, have two wins, one loss to Ngezi Platinum and draws against Chicken and Shabanie.
This game comes at contrasting times for the two Harare giants though.
You never know with these derby matches; it is a question of who wants it more at the end of the day.
Fans should just hope the players will this time rise to the occasion and entertain them with some beautiful football.
