It is about the people

THE sight at the ‘One-Million-Man March’ in the streets and at Robert Mugabe Square was blinding and the noise deafening.
Our numbers, especially what they mean, have always frightened our detractors.
Citizens of our great nation have never shied away from making bold statements.
The people of Zimbabwe have, since time immemorial, rallied behind all things Zimbabwean.
We know who we are, who is for us and against us.
What our enemies and their proxies seem not to get is that it is about the people.
And they cannot believe, rather in their warped thinking they cannot imagine us making bold statements, on our own.
They want to think for us, direct how we operate and act.
But the thousands that gather today in show of solidarity, belief and confidence, are no different from thousands that gathered in what some now feel to be aeons ago.
Thousands rallied behind Nehanda and Lobengula.
Thousands responded to the calls of the Second Chimurenga.
Thousands welcomed Robert Mugabe home from the bush.
Thousands rose to repossess their land.
Thousands appended their signatures protesting and showing their displeasure with the sanctions imposed on the country.
It is not about Robert Mugabe, it is not about positions, it is not about power, it is about the people.
Thousands will today, tomorrow and in the far future respond to the clarion call because the people of Zimbabwe will never forget the colonial injustices and the evil nature of the systems which propped up the Rhodesian regime.
We shall never forget the acts perpetrated against us, hatched by evil minds that today pretend to love and want the best for us.
In our beloved nation, thousands will gather in no time, brought together by no physical determination but a spiritual call informed by memories of a historical and cultural past.
They are shocked because they thought they had done a thorough job in their exaggeration and distortion of our story.
But the people know their story.
Caricaturing its protagonists will not change it or lessen the value of the contribution of participants.
It is about the people.
And the people will always rally behind those who seek to achieve, relentlessly, the goals and aspirations of our beautiful country.
Stooges must not be surprised.
They have failed because they do what they do half-heartedly, as an afterthought, only interested in lining their pockets, never acting on behalf of the people.
Persistently the current leadership of the country has followed the vision of the liberation struggles.
Zimbabwe is a nation of daring people who require a daring leadership.
If Zimbabwe’s leader was white, he would today be celebrated by the whole world.
Foreign ideas and stooges must not be surprised when their calls receive no answers.
In our supportive and appreciative thousands, we are a people soaring high.
We are a people with a clear vision for ourselves and what we stand for as a nation.
We are a people rising above the trivia of denigrating each other, playing into the hands of the enemy.
We are a people defending both our heritage and identity.
The West will never tell us who to and not to march for because that is our prerogative.
Who we praise and glorify is up to us as Zimbabweans.
