Keeping the dream alive

Published on

EVERY nation is founded on the principles of the national agenda.

It is from there that the national vision, dreams and aspirations are built on.

That vision forms the foundation of a nation.

Those dreams and aspirations draw people to the national vision.

From there, a nation is founded.

Zimbabwe is no exception to the above tenets of nationhood.

Our agenda as a nation is premised on the ideals of the liberation struggle.

It is anchored on controlling the means of production.

It is enshrined on owning the land.

We have achieved the above three processes with relative ease.

We have achieved that because of unity of purpose.

Yet there is so much more that needs to be done.

We need to defend that freedom.

We need to keep the principles of the liberation struggle alive.

This is so because the enemy will never tire trying to annihilate that freedom.

The enemy will never give up on us because in our hands, lies the flame of African freedom.

That freedom starts from the mind.

It starts from the way we do things.

It starts from how we relate with each other in the country and how we relate with outsiders.

We are known for peace.

Let us maintain that.

Constant threats do little to enhance our prospects for development.

They tarnish our image and make a mockery of the peace-loving people tag that we have carried all these years with pride.

They scare away investment and destroy the economy.

There are platforms for solving grievances.

There is dialogue on the one hand and courts of law on the other.

Those two can only be ignored by those who feel threatened by the prevailing peace, unity and tranquility in the country.

Then there is the issue of corruption.

This is a cancer that has been talked about times without number.

No serious country can develop where there is corruption.

No meaningful development can come to the people where corruption is the order of the day.

Corruption has no place in a country that seeks to thrive economically.

The values of the liberation struggle are vehemently opposed to corruption for a reason; that it destroys individuals, communities, societies and nations.

Corruption divides a people, it divides a nation.

We are pleased to note that the Zimbabwe Anti-corruption Commission (ZACC) has started on a good note.

We hope there will be convictions on the cases they are investigating.

Our dream as a nation cuts across all sectors.

But what is happening in our sporting fraternity is disheartening.

We cannot talk about developing skills for youths when we are suspended across the board because of love for power by a few individuals.

The powers that be at ZIFA and Zimbabwe Cricket must put their houses in order so that they cushion the embarrassment that the nation has been subjected to in recent times.

The development of our sport culminates in the development of our nation.

This is one principle that must be imbued to those who are running the respective sporting associations.

This is not about individuals but the nation at large.

Let us keep the national dream alive.

Together we will make it!
