CARTOON fanatics and children are in for a treat following
this week’s launch of Disney XD, a new boy-focused and girlinclusive
channel for children aged six to 14, on the DSTV
platform.
Launched by the Walt Disney Company and MultiChoice,
the new channel is expected to run from 5am – 10pm daily,
seven days a week and features a mix of live-action and
animated programming appealing to boys and their quest
for discovery, accomplishment, sports, adventure, music and
humour.
In a press release forwarded to the The Patriot, by Multi-
Choice Zimbabwe public relations manager, Elizabeth Dziva,
Disney XD is available on DSTV channel 304 on DSTV
Premium, Compact Plus and Compact subscribers.
Disney XD is a strategic addition to Disney’s flagship family
channel, Disney Channel, which was launched in Africa in
2006 and has proved consistently popular with children and
families.
The press release also discloses that Disney XD will showcase
worldwide hit shows including Phineas and Ferb, Zeke
and Luther, I’m in the Band and Kick Buttowski.
Since its global launch in 2009, Disney XD, the channel has
been generally viewed by many as a phenomenal success.
Commenting on the development, Maciej Bral, vice president
Disney Channels CEE and Emerging Markets, said over
the past 20 months, the company had launched 14 Disney XD
channels across EMEA.
“We have launched 14 Disney XD channels across EMEA
and we are proud to be launching Disney XD today in Africa,”
she said.
“Disney XD is more focused on boys than our flagship kids
and family channel Disney Channel, and broadens the line-up
available to MultiChoice pay-TV subscribers.”
The Walt Disney Company Africa added that they were
proud of the success Disney enjoyed in Africa.
They also said they were looking to the future and would
remain committed to investing in the market.
Aletta Alberts, MultiChoice general manager, said DSTV
was focused on continuously expanding the DSTV viewing
experience for its subscribers, both young and old, and not
forgetting the young-at-heart.
Alberts added that Disney XD with its strong action-flavour
would no doubt delight and enthrall younger viewers.
