New date for Tokwe-Mukorsi gala

Published on

ORGANISERS of the Tokwe-Mukorsi fundraising musical gala are yet to come up with a new possible date for the event after it was postponed earlier this month.
The gala which was organised to benefit Tokwe -Mukorsi flood victims was postponed on the eleventh hour earlier this month.
Speaking to Patriot Arts, one of the organisers, Lawrence Chinoperekwei of Devine Assignments said they were yet to announce the ‘perfect date’ for the gala.
He said as organisers they want a date that suits both, the artistes and stakeholders.
“We have not managed to identify a date for the gala because we want to rope in more artistes and we are still in negotiations with them since a number were not included on the first programme,” said Chinoperekwei.
“We are also hoping people will fulfil their pledges.”
Some artistes, said Chinoperekwei, have pledged to assist in the fundraising while others have highlighted their interests yet they are booked elsewhere already.
“We want the gala to be an encompassing event that embraces that national spirit, therefore artistes countrywide can participate.”
The date, said Chinoperekwei, will determine the venue of the event since some venues are regulated by the number of artistes performing.
Although they are yet to set a possible date and venue, Chinoperekwei appealed to Zimbabweans to help the Tokwe Mukorsi flood victims.
It has been over three months since Tokwe-Mukorsi flood victims were moved to Chingwizi Camp.
They are temporarily settled there.
They are currently facing various problems ranging from lack of food, clothing and shelter.
Since the beginning of March this year, the flood victims have been surviving on donations.
Earlier this month, several artistes toured and donated various items at Chingwizi Camp.
The artistes who toured the camp include superstar Oliver Mtukudzi, Charles Charamba, Winky D, Leonard Zhakata and Extra Large among others.
