Students: Say no to Western cultures

Published on

CHILDREN in tertiary institutions should not fall victim to Western culture by following misleading Western icons, instead they should embrace our rich African culture.
The history of the country is an important guide that can help the children of Zimbabwe to stay firm and not fall victim to Westernisation.
Children of today are growing up in the era where the television has invaded the Zimbabwean home in quite a huge manner.
This means that they are exposed to quite a great deal of Western programming that has brought with it its own fair share of the good and the bad.
The internet also has its contributions in the damaging of the Zimbabwean culture, but by embracing their Zimbabwean culture the Zimbabwean child realises his or her Zimbabwean identity.
Zimbabwe has a rich tradition which tertiary school children should take up and preserve for the benefit of the future generations.
Morals and values are the most important principles that guide one’s activities in schools.
It takes a strong character to stand against college juvenile delinquency.
Most of the time children try to imitate the English or Western way of living as well as dressing.
The problem of lost African identities can only be overcome if we show our children the way, particularly hunhu/ubuntu.
That even goes back to the elders who should take their time off and show the younger ones what is supposed to be done at whatever time.
This way the Zimbabwean child is guaranteed of a better future.
