The economy needs us all

Published on

I STRONGLY feel that the vast majority of us are doing the nation a disservice.
We boast about being a highly educated people, but some of our utterances and acts do not denote this education we vaunt so much about.
Calls to put the hands on the plough and not look back were made.
And so was the clarion call forward ever and backwards never.
But it seems not many are taking heed.
It is not a secret that this nation has suffered badly as a result of illegal sanctions imposed by the West protesting our life-changing and transforming programmes like the Land Reform Programme.
Industries have shut down and some are struggling to stay afloat, hamstrung by the embargoes that for more than a decade have pummelled the economy.
But we remained resolute, we were not broken, we did not give in and we did not backtrack.
The hard truth is that this nation will work again, no matter what spanners are thrown, but our success, which will be achieved no matter what, depends on our attitudes.
Our attitudes will determine the time success will come, soon or a bit later, is entirely dependent on us.
We are the authors of our future.
Sadly there are some missing this point.
Politics has had its share and now it is time to increase our focus on the economy.
The disintegration of the MDCs and resounding success of ZANU PF during the July 2013 elections was a bold statement by people who know what they want.
The politics is clear; there is no confusion in that arena.
It is the economy now that needs all our attention and focus.
Government is clear on what must be done.
The ZANU PF’s manifesto did not stutter on what needs to be done, but it seems a vast majority of us are still so much in the political arena, where everything is so clear.
Let us all migrate to the economic arena and make the same statement we made in the political arena.
We are not naïve, we know that politics influences everything and it cannot be separated from our day-to-day activities.
But the politics is clear; it must not take up much of our time.
We will never be a colony again nor will we ever allow outsiders to call the shots and exploit us.
The economy needs our input, everyone’s input.
In the decade plus of battering our systems have become obsolete and we need to find ways to upgrade and install new technologies.
This is the only way our products will become competitive on the international market.
We have an agricultural sector to revive and industries that need to start running again.
Investors must come in to find an organised people who are clear about what needs to be done.
The guiding principles have been laid out, but iwe neni tiri kunzwisisa here zvatinofanirwa kuita kuti nyika ibudirire uye iyende mberi.
Just as we made that huge and clear statement in the historic July 31 2013 harmonised elections, so must we make one regarding the economy.
It is time that we all get serious about the economy.
These shenanigans that do not contribute towards growing the economy we must stop them.
It is important that we understand that the duty to make the economy grow is not a single man or party responsibility, it is the responsibility of everyone.
