Time to prove critics wrong

EDITOR – THE rains have come and this is a welcome development to us as farmers.
Government and the private sector have played their part by availing support schemes and this season is promising to be a success.
With all the support we have continued to receive despite negative reports by the country’s detractors that black farmers are useless, the onus is on us as farmers to shame them.
We have been supported so let us not let down those that have shown faith in us.
This year the inputs have come in time, before the rains have started falling.
We have been supported with inputs, machinery, technical assistance and funds
It is a good thing that this season comes when we have a Government that understands the need to support the agriculture sector.
It is time we turn the tables and show the whites that we can do what they used to do on the farms and even surpass their standards.
This season will be a success hence we should all work together to ensure we increase our yields and at the same time guaranteeing food security.
As farmers, we appeal to Government to assist us when at the end of the season to start negotiating prices with buyers.
We are always told Zimbabwe used to be the bread-basket of Southern Africa and as long as we maintain best farming practices, as the so-called new farmers, we are going to restore that status.
