Why bring back cricket rebels?

Published on

EDITOR – REBELS are always rebels.
I am saddened by the fact that Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) is considering taking back former players who abandoned the sport on political grounds.
What good will they bring to us when they led us into the cricket doldrums more than a decade ago?
How do we know they are coming back in good faith?
Besides, are we saying we have failed without former cricket players, most of them white for that matter?
All these questions need to be answered by ZC chairman Wilson Manase.
I remember one of the reasons why white players left ZC was the quota system where the team was supposed to have more black players.
Most of the white players didn’t buy that idea while some were even against the Land Reform Programme.
Please Manase, make sure these guys you and your board are going to appoint serve the nation.
We won’t appreciate mercenaries with ulterior motives in those structures.
I love my cricket.
I love my Zimbabwe.
I love my game and if it means starting from zero to rebuild our cricket, we might as well do that.
